FMS Counseling: Mrs. Burfield, Mrs. Horstmeier & Ms. Jo
Needing to see the school counselor?
Students needing to access the counselor's office can submit a form from their chrome books by clicking on the apps button. This form comes only to the counselor's. 6th graders will learn how to use this app on Tuesday, August 27th when counselors meet with them through their ELA classrooms. You can also ask your teacher for help. If you can't locate the form you can also shoot your school counselor an email. Obviously if there is an emergency, students will be sent to the Counselors Office immediately. This is just a great way to help students stay in the classroom for instruction time .
Here are a few ways you can reach out to us in the FMS Counseling Office:
Mrs. Horstmeier works with students with a last name starting with an A-J and can be reached at shorstmeier@fulton58.org and Mrs. Burfield works with students with a last name starting with a K-Z and can be reached at cburfield@fulton58.org.
Ms. Jo is the Counseling Office secretary and can be reached at jwilliamson@fulton58.org.
Counseling Office phone number is 573-590-8208

AFTER SCHOOL CHOIR HAD A GREAT FIRST REHEARSAL! If you want to join after school choir, please come see me, students, for a sign up sheet! Rehearsals are on Tuesdays after school until 4:15!
Music 6: This week we learned to play the Cups song, discussed the difference between beat and rhythm, and started talking about innovation!
Next week we will begin our INNOVATION IN MUSIC focus! Over the next few weeks we will explore WHAT innovation is, and who some innovators in music may be!
Arts Alive: It is all Disney all the time in Arts Alive right now! We are working diligently to learn our music so that we can begin choreography by October 1st!
Choir: Choir is diving in! We have learned 1 of our combined pieces for the FHS/FMS concert in October! We have learned one of our FMS only pieces as well. Our newest FMS-only selection is a medley from the movie Sister Act! This piece allows us to explore different musical styles, and have a lot of fun in the process!
CONCERT ATTIRE: khaki pants, black shoes, and a black choir polo shirt. If you do not have one, you may purchase one from me for $15. These polos are the same as those worn by FMS choirs for the past several years. Students may certainly borrow or buy one from a student who was in FMS choirs and no longer needs the polo.

News from the Art Room
Hello and greetings!
I am glad to be back in the classroom again!
This week we will be reviewing classroom practices and procedures since I have been gone, and we will be looking at assignments, and projects we have ongoing. We will look at where we are at, and move into more concentrated objectives.
6th Grade
ELO3
Students will select and use the Elements and Principles of Art and Design
We will work together and discuss some of the fundamentals of drawing and design work and look at optical art.
We will move rapidly into our next projects to make up for lost time.
7th Grade Semester
ELO2
Students will use subject matter and themes in Artwork
Students will be continuing work on their Illuminated Letter Designs. We may have to reassess where we are at and start some new drafts of this project so we are hitting all the key points.
7th Grade All Year
ELO2

8th Grade Semester
ELO2
Students will use subject matter and themes in artwork.
Students will continue work on their surprise lockers and we will take a look at where we are at in that process. We will use the next week to evaluate understanding of the concepts, and make sure we are on task with the assignment. We will look at moving to our second unit as soon as we wrap up on this first objective. Some of us may have to do revisions and a second final draft.

Students will continue work on their surprise lockers and we will take a look at where we are at in that process. We will look at moving to our second part of this unit as soon as we wrap up on this first objective. Some of us may have to do revisions and a second final draft.
The All year class will generally have multiple assignments covering the objective in different ways. We may shift focus in mediums, or application processes to meet the same objective as time allows us. Generally there will be skill-building assignments that surround a centralized project that will measure what the students have gained in skill development.
As always, if you have any questions, or concerns please don’t hesitate in contacting me through email at cchapman@fulton58.org
I am very much looking forward to getting reacquainted with the students and working with our new sixth graders this year.
Its great to be back!

The FMS Thrive Hive
The Fulton Middle School Thrive Hive opened for business on Monday, August 21st. The store is open 7:25 to 7:45 each morning. If students aren't able to shop then they can email Mrs. Horstmeier @ shortmeier@fulton58.org or Mrs. Yates @ hyates@fulton58.org for an appointment to shop.
The Thrive Hive is designed to allow students to use their Hornet Bucks--earned through the Positive Behavior Support Program--to purchase items from the store. The Thrive Hive was created to help the needs of the FMS Student Community.
Items currently needed for the store are:
Any age appropriate toys, DVD's for the holidays.
As we gear up for winter: Hats, gloves, scarves, and coats.
Snack items: Nutella snack packs, Slim jims and pop tarts.
Other needs are ear buds and water bottles.
We will be gearing up for the holiday season so baskets to make gift packages for students to purchase would be great.
All other items are appreciated as well.
If you would like to donate, please call Fulton Middle School at 573-590-8200.
