Reminder: No School on Monday and Tuesday
Principal's Message
Dear Bethany Families,
With the Monday holiday and Staff Development Day coming up, it's another 4—day weekend ahead for students. On Tuesday, our staff will be engaged in important professional learning opportunities and utilizing their time to plan and prepare for upcoming units.
This is a GREAT time for your children to READ, play, rest, and then read some more! 😁. I highly recommend a family trip to the Bethany or Cedar Mill Public Library. Checking out a new stack of books can inspire your child to hook into a series, try a new genre, or read some old favorites! I use the Libby app for FREE audio and digital copies of books. Audiobooks are great for long car rides or multi-tasking (I love to listen to a book while I'm folding laundry!). That might be too big of an ask to have your child do chores AND listen to a book at the same time! You could always try telling them that Ms. Rosenquist suggested it! 😂
Sending love and wishes for healing, peace, and strength to our families who are experiencing hardships right now (illness, loss, change, and obstacles). We are wrapping you in the arms of the school community and know that we have a lot of support available for you and your children. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me, the office, our counselor, Mr. Parker, and/or our school social worker, Ms. Schimpke, if there is anything you need.
To our volunteers, THANK YOU!!! You are making such an important difference and positive impact on a daily basis. A special shout out to Ms. Hussain and all of the OBOB volunteers for providing the opportunity for our third, fourth, and fifth graders to compete in this reading experience! Stay tuned for the results of our school battles. The tournament is still underway!
Have a great weekend.

Your Support Helped Provide Journals for Thriving Third-Graders!
Hello! We received a grant to purchase "Big Life" journals for all third graders at Bethany Elementary. We have started using them as part of our Social-Emotional instruction—we use them about once a week, using lesson plans provided by the journal company that we as teachers adapt and supplement. I've attached some photos of my students using them!
Thank you!

Volunteers
We appreciate all of the hours that our volunteers are working at school. It is so encouraging to see parents and grandparents reading with students, helping with math, working in the Library, working in the Cafeteria, teaching art lessons and much more.
We are needing to keep better track of the hours for some of our reporting. We are now asking volunteers to sign into the computer or use the app on their phone to sign in. We will not be using the sign-in book to track most volunteer hours.
You had to set up an account with a username and password when you did your background check. This is the information that you will use to sign in to the school computer. If you have forgotten your information, please come a few minutes early and the office can help you find your Username and help change your password.
If you want to sign in on your phone, you will need to download the My Impact app found in your App store.
If you have not done the background check and would like to begin volunteering, please click on the link below to get started.

By now you should have been notified that your child's report card is available in PARENT VUE. (This is different from Parent Square that we use for communication). ParentVUE is a platform that houses report cards, test scores, class schedules, attendance information, and more. You'll want to get very familiar with tool when your kids get into to middle and high school! Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help!

PTO Meeting Minutes
Thank you to everyone who attended our PTO meeting last Thursday! We reviewed our upcoming events, including the Family Game Night on Feb 24, the pending Variety Show, and the Jog-a-Thon later this spring. There are lots of opportunities for interested volunteers! Please sign up to volunteer online. Email Anjana at volunteer.coordinator@bspto.org if you have any questions.
We also voted on and approved RFFs to purchase access to a grant database for the PTO, and to provide the Playground Improvement Committee with the remaining capital funds needed to install both the Crest Climber and a Double Swirl Slide. A Nike Grant application is now pending which would allow us to complete our playground improvements! We will keep you posted on further developments.
As always, the meeting minutes are available at https://www.bspto.org/minutes. Please reach out to Beth at secretary@bspto.org if you have any edits, additions, or questions. Our next meeting is Thursday, March 9 at 7pm.
Leave a Lasting Print at Bethany Elementary!
With each $150 donation your personal message will be etched on a charm and permanently hung on the central fence of Bethany Elementary School Playground. The money raised will go towards funding playground improvements and future PTO projects!
Complete this google form to secure your charm. A member of the PTO will contact you to confirm your charm text and arrange payment.

Bethany Social Media
We are on Social Media! We have been posting fun pictures and videos, so be sure to follow us on Instagram and Facebook. You can click on the links below and still see the posts without having these apps.
We are in the process of taking pictures from different areas of the school. We may post pictures or videos, but there will be no names associated with the pictures. If you would prefer that we don't publish a picture of your child, please send me an email to: Sue_Kropilak@beaverton.k12.or.us
