We recognize the anxiety that students and families are experiencing with the uncertainties of beginning a new school year. Please note that we are doing everything possible to update student schedules as quickly as we can. There are many things that go on with our master schedule and it is not as easy as just putting a student in a desired class. Currently our classes are impacted and we have two weeks, per contract, to balance numbers so that we are in compliance. Some students MAY NOT get their choice of classes. This is simply the nature of our impacted numbers. Thank you for your understanding. While we know it is disappointing, I can guarantee this will not impact their progress in moving forward to high school post middle school. If your child is not placed in an honors math or ELA course they are still exposed to a rigorous curriculum and have the ability to excel at honors levels. The honors courses at middle school do not impact the student’s ability to get into honors or AP classes at the high school level. We believe in educating the whole child and academics is only a piece to that learning process.
Students may not get the electives they selected. While counselors do their best, many of the more popular requested courses are already filled. Counselors are still continuing to update schedules, and we ask that all students and parents check PowerSchool (which is now accessible to parents and students) on Tuesday evening for the most up to date schedule. THIS IS THE SCHEDULE THE STUDENTS WILL BE EXPECTED TO FOLLOW ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.
Counselors are not able to address emails at this time. If you have a concern or there is an error in your child’s schedule, please reach out to the counselor but know they will not be able to respond quickly. We first must get all students enrolled in the system. As with everything else, grace, patience, and flexibility are much appreciated and together we can help support your students in having a positive school experience this year. Schedules will be subject to change over the course of the first few weeks of school. Thank you.
In Partnership,
Dr. Terri Daniels

PARENTS - FOLSOM MIDDLE SCHOOL NEEDS YOU
Are you interested in serving on the Folsom Middle School Site Council? The School Site Council (SSC) is a committee of teachers, parents, and classified staff members who work with the school principal to plan for the needs of the school.
Members develop, review and evaluate school improvement programs and school budgets. The members of the site council are generally elected by their peers. For example, parents elect the parent representatives and teachers elect teachers.
We are in need of 3 new parent committee members this school year. If you are interested, or would like to nominate someone you feel would be a good representative to serve on this committee, please click the link below and fill out the form to nominate yourself or others. The deadline for nominations will be Friday, September 4, 2020. After nominations are received a ballot will go out to parents to elect the 3 new members to add to the council. The site council will meet quarterly to consider the goals of the school and evaluate the school’s progress toward those goals. Consideration of school test scores, attendance, discipline records, parent surveys, and input from students are a few of the measures that are reviewed by the council. Please contemplate serving in this important role at FMS. If you have any questions, you may email Mrs. Daniels or contact the school office. Thank you.
