LCE News From Mrs. Blaney
October, 2019
"O hushed October morning mild, begin the hours of this day slow. Make the day seem to us less brief." - Robert Frost
Although some of the days were minimum days (Parent-Teacher conferences and a Collaboration Day for 1st - 6th graders), October was a full month! This newsletter will highlight some of those events, preview what's to come, and share some resources and other information with you.
National Pizza Month: 2nd Grade
Did you celebrate with pizza this month? Some of our second grade classes did! Students practiced writing instructions as they took over the faculty lounge to make pizzas with the help of their teacher, Mrs. Crocker, and parent volunteers.
Center Time: Kindergarten
Kindergarteners were learning all about shapes through a story led by Kindergarten Aide Susie Steinbrugge. I love the total engagement that small groups foster.
Milkweed Mysteries: 3rd Grade
Mrs. Slattery led an impromptu Science lesson during recess as students found ladybugs, caterpillars, and other observable life on our milkweed plant.
Buddy Classes
Mrs. Pruden's 3rd Graders buddied up with Mrs. Daniger's Transitional Kindergarteners for a fun time at Memorial Park!

Find it by the 5th!
This Lost and Found cart is FULL. Items will be donated if not claimed. I recommend you send your child to the Lost and Found and give them a lot of praise if they can find something that they lost. #LetGrow
Challenge Success
Do you let your child make mistakes? In this video, Madeline Levine explains why this is such an important step in raising problem-solvers. #LetGrow

What is Bullying?
I received some positive feedback recently for sharing how educators define words like bullying. Working in a school setting allows us to help students in many situations. Bullying is real, but it is rare. What is more common in elementary school is when kids are having normal conflicts or are being rude. Sometimes, we have to deal with students who choose to be mean. We recognize bullying as something more - something we absolutely do not condone.
Social Emotional Learning
Last month, I shared a video with you about the Let Grow project. I think November would be a great month to try it out since students will have more time at home with the Thanksgiving break. Here is a list of ideas for Pre K - K, K-6, and Middle School students. I have stickers for any student who participates! #LetGrow
Math Resource
All students have access to DreamBox Math. DreamBox is an online math program guaranteed to raise proficiency if practiced regularly. If your child forgot how to log in, reach out to his/her teacher.
Reminder: Flu Season is Here
Get your flu shots if you've not done so yet. We want our students in attendance and healthy!

Calling Volunteers and/or Scouts
We are adding to our new blacktop every day. This weekend, Jacob Piasky completed his Eagle Scout project by painting a Multi Use Circle. This will offer lots of games that Mrs. Hokanson will teach the students how to play. Thank you, Jacob!
There are other Peaceful Playground stencils ready to be painted in other areas of the playground. We also have a 5x5 array on the playground that was painted by our contractors, and I have a GREAT idea for a game that can be painted on it. Let me know if you or someone you know is in need of a project!
Book Recommendation
1-2-3 Magic - Effective Discipline for Children 2 - 12 It's the 25 anniversary and 4th edition of this book. That's a good sign. An even better sign is that Mrs. DeBoer recommends it often.
