Travel During Spring Break
In my morning announcements video this morning, I talked about the idea of taking a staycation by camping out in the backyard, reading some great books, enjoying water play outside, and more! If you have travel plans over April Break, please take a few minutes to review the recommendations found on the CT Travel Advisory website (link above). Whatever your vacation or staycation looks like, I hope that you stay safe and have fun!
Placement for 2021-22
Spring has sprung and families and teachers are beginning to think about class placement for next year. Long Meadow School teachers and staff put countless hours into the development of class lists, creating well-balanced cohorts and the optimal learning environment for all students. We recognize that families often wish to contribute information that will assist staff with this important task. While we cannot honor requests for specific teachers and peers, families may choose to share information which they believe may inform the placement process. Simply send an email to the attention of Mr. Wermuth to LMESOffice@region15.org. These emails will be shared with staff members during the placement process to ensure that all information is considered. Note: Emails must be received by Monday, May 3rd, to be considered as part of the placement process.
Reminder About Using School Dismissal Manager
Just a friendly reminder to always use School Dismissal Manager (SDM) whenever you are going to pick up your child earlier than the scheduled end of the day. You can download the app on your phone and it only takes a few minutes! It also frees up our office staff to be able to focus on their day-to-day tasks. Thank you!
The Oldest Student
In second grade, students read the book The Oldest Student, about Mary Walker, a former slave who learned to read at the age of 116! Students used a collage technique to turn their reading experience into artwork. Such a wonderful and creative celebration of lifelong learning!
Spring Into Art!
In kindergarten, students used cut and torn construction paper to create a spring bouquet alive with colors, shapes, and the occasional bee! These beautiful art pieces are a wonderful celebration of the changing season and show how we include the arts in Region 15!
Thank You To The Leopard Readers!
Yesterday, Region 15 Library Media Specialists held our annual Region 15 Nutmeg Book Bowl. This trivia contest is a yearly celebration of reading award-winning books and fifth-grade students get to participate in teams. This year, the Leopard Readers team represented Long Meadow and, while they did not make it to the final round, they worked hard and collaborated effectively as a team. Pictured above are Luca, Katherine, and Ali, as well as Dr. Shaw, the fifth-grade reading teacher (and me). Great job!
Recycled and Found Instruments Create Beautiful Music!
In music class with fourth grade, students read the book Ada's Violin and this inspired them to create their own instruments from recycled materials! The result is a wonderful piece of music that was written by the students themselves.
