PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
The cold winter weather is here to stay. We do go outside before school if the temperature is above zero so please send your child in their warm winter clothes so they can be warm and safe outside in the morning. Kids have been reminded of the rules of snow, which are usually different at school than home. The kids sure do love sliding down the hills, even without sleds! Fun fun fun
I would like to take this time to wish all Abrams Families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! I know I am looking forward to some time with my husband and my girls over the break. Enjoy your time with family during this holiday season.
Mrs. Michalski

NURSES KNOWledge on the Flu...Part 2 of 2
Nurses notes regarding the flu:
What are the symptoms of the flu? Fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills, fatigue and sometimes vomiting and diarrhea.
How is the flu spread? The flu viruses are spread mainly by droplets made when people with the flu cough, sneeze, or talk. These droplets can land in the mouths and noses of people who are nearby. Less often, a person might get the flu by touching something that has the flu virus on it and then touching their own mouth, eyes, or nose.
What if your child is sick? Contact your child’s doctor if your child has any of the following: fast breathing, trouble breathing, bluish or gray skin color, not drinking enough fluids (not going to the bathroom or not making as much urine as they normally do), severe or persistent vomiting, not waking up or not interacting, being so irritable that the child does not want to be held, flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough, or your child has other conditions (like heart or lung disease, diabetes, or asthma) and develops flu symptoms, including a fever and /or cough. Contact the doctor early if you are worried about your child’s illness. Make sure your child gets plenty of rest and drinks enough fluids.
When can my child go back to school after having the flu? Keep your child home from school for at least 24 hours after their fever is gone. The fever should be gone without the use of a fever reducing medicine. A fever is defined as 100 degrees or higher.

Stack Up
Do you know anyone with a World Record? Yes, you do!!!
Did you know stacking and un-stacking plastic cups is an energizing, brain-activating and world-record-setting activity? On Thursday, November 17th, all the students at Abrams Elementary took part in what Guinness World Records terms the “World’s Largest Sport Stacking Event.” During this day, sport stackers from all around the world were up stacking and down stacking for at least 30 minutes. Sport stacking is appealing to teachers and students because it’s easy to learn but very challenging to master. Benefits include improved reaction time, hand-eye coordination, concentration and focus.
Last year, 618,394 stackers participated to set a new record. This year that record was broken with a total of 622,809 participants from countries such as the United States, Hungary, Germany, South Korea, New Zealand, Colombia and Taiwan. Your student can go to SpeedStacks.com/stackup/ to download their personalized STACK UP! Participation certificate.
Our school also earned a FREE Sport Pack of Speed Stacks. We had 50 sets of Speed Stacks to sell in order to keep the Sport Pack for free. THANK YOU!!! to all of the students that purchased these sets in order for our school to keep the Sport Pack for FREE!!! We will have many years of fun using these cups.
NICE JOB EVERYONE!!!
Thank you,
Mrs. Rochon
