Weekly News
Welcome back from Thanksgiving break. I hope everyone was able to enjoy the extra day Mother Nature provided us on Monday. There are many great things going on at Lincoln over the next few weeks before we have winter break. Students and staff are working hard on building understandings across all content areas along with working on our social-emotional learning. Some highlights will be pictured and shared in my weekly newsletter along with frequent postings on our Twitter page. Please look and like those posts that you are interested in.
Lincoln staff and students are also working toward building empathy and kindness through a daily reminder/activity. These are announced every morning and posted on our front bulletin board. Staff members have created daily "Pay It Forward" reminders to build a caring Lincoln community. Please ask your son or daughter about this and see how this can be carried outside of school. You will see these are simple tasks but often can make someone's day! I plan to also highlight these on social media using the hashtag #BeKindfor25. Feel free to also use this hashtag if you are seeing this outside of school.
Some opening activities included:
- Say please and Thank you
- Find a lunch lady and thank them
- Spend time with a classmate you don't usually spend time with.
- Smile at one more person today.
TOYS FOR KIDS
In the main office, you will notice a toy collection box for the Jim Wheeler Toys for Kids Program. This program, serving in partnership with the Salvation Army, collects unwrapped toys to distribute to students in need within our community. For those wishing to contribute, please drop off an unwrapped toy to the toy drop box in the main office the drop off date has been extended so you still have time please drop off toys by Monday morning, December 10.
DRESS FOR THE WEATHER
A big thank you goes out to our parents and students who are coming to school dressed for the weather. As the snow has fallen students still want to play outside especially in the snow. In addition, we all need to dress warmly. Unless the temperature is below zero wind chill, or raining substantially, we will have outdoor recess. Failure to be appropriately dressed could lead to the student(s) remaining inside during recess.
Parent Satisfaction Survey Is Coming December 3
Every year, District 303 conducts a satisfaction survey that gives us meaningful feedback from our students, teachers, and parents. For the last decade, we have administered a local survey that has provided us with comparable data.
This year, as part of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) we will now be participating in the statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.
You will receive an email communication on December 3 with the link to the5Essentials Survey. We appreciate your participation in this anonymous tool used to gather information about our schools

From The Nurse
With cold and flu season upon us, here are a few reminders when deciding whether to keepyour child home from school.
Keep a child home from school when:
• Your child has had a fever of 100 degrees F or more within the past 24 hours
• Your child has had vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
• Your child has an unexplained rash, sore or pink eyes with a discharge
• Your child has a persistent, productive cough
** Your child should be fever free (without fever-reducing medicine) for 24 hours before returning to school
** If a bacterial infection has been diagnosed, your child MUST have 24 hours of antibiotics
before returning to school
** If your child has not fully recovered or remained home for the recommended length of time,
parents may be contacted and asked to take the child home.
Extended absences of 5 or more days may require that the student present a doctor's statement
of re-admittance to the school nurse.
Please report all absences to your child's school. Please provide reason for absences and
whether or not your child has a communicable or contagious illness.
Just a reminder……According to District policy, cough drops and any other over the counter medications need a doctor's note and parent permission. Please see the District policy in the student handbook.
