VACDES: Proudly Building on the Past to Prepare Students for the Future
We are a staff dedicated to helping each student grow to her or his maximum potential academically, physically, emotionally, and socially to meet local and global challenges both now and in the future.
VACDES has a vibrant partnership with Participate, an organization committed to helping schools make connections between the standards and curriculum documents of the state and school division with local and global challenges and celebrations.
Additionally, VACDES has a strong commitment to fostering an active and physically fit lifestyle for our students--beginning each day with opportunities for either Open Gym (one day a week for each grade level) or Running Club (four days a week for each grade level), continuing with active recess time for all, and ending, whenever possible during the school year, with intramurals in running, wrestling, and a variety of other activities.
Cultural Arts take precedence at VACDES as well. Our students participate in music concerts, regional chorus (grade 4), and an annual arts and science fair for all grade levels.
STEM is an important focus with weekly lessons for all grades K-4 students in our beautiful STEM lab.
Parent and family involvement are valued at VACDES. An incredible PTO has a full slate of activities for the year including a first day "Tears and Cheers" reception, Famiy Fitness Night, and the Fall Run and Read event.
VACDES is a treasure--for Winchester, our state, our nation, and our world. I encourage you to visit and see how you can become involved in a dynamic, creative, and innovative school.
