K-2 Assessment Development

PASST Development Project Professional Learning

What Is PASST?

Performance Assessment for Social Studies Thinking (PASST) is a collaboration of educators across the state of Michigan who have taken part in assessment development training to create a series of next generation assessments for Social Studies that measure both the content set forth by the Michigan Content Expectations and the skills stressed in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework.

Genesee ISD PASST PD Series

This state-wide, project-based, year long training consisting of four sessions will focus on equipping K-2 teachers with the knowledge and skills necessary to create and evaluate next generation assessment items.

This professional development series will focus on learning and applying:

  • research on assessing K-2 students
  • strategies/techniques for increasing assessment efficiency
  • using one assessment for multiple subject evidence collection
  • learning targets to focus assessment
  • depth of knowledge,
  • text complexity,
  • question writing that assesses skills AND content, and
  • scoring assessment items.

Participants will collaboratively create "next generation" assessment items aligned to the Michigan Social Studies Content Expectations and the skills stressed in the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) and the College, Career, and Civic Life (C3) Framework.
