Long Way Gone

A Boy Soldier

Ishmael Beah

Ishmael Beah went through hard times as a kid and when he was on the run from Rebels he stole from others and lost friends and family and was captured and forced into service in the rebel army and had to fight and kill many people he did not want to kill.

Historical Connection

This story is historically similar with the Germans at the end of World War 2 when the Nazis forced children and Women to defend Berlin and if they refused they were killed. This is similar To Ishmael Beah's story because he was a child and he was being forced to fight for the Rebels or he would have been killed.

Self Vs. Nature

Nature swallows up Ishmael and his friends like making them extremely hot and dehydrated and it makes them want to lie and steal from others and eat their food and drink their water. When they are out in the forest they get lost and get delirious and start seeing things that are not real.

Self Vs. Man

Ishmael and his friends are constanly avoiding man and animals because if they are captured or attacked they could be forced to fight along side the rebels or be killed by them. They are always on the run from other people and can hardly trust anyone they see.
