Unit 3 Week 1 Student Outcomes:
- Phonics/Spelling Skill- Long a: CVCe (late, take, wade, gaze, fade, save, etc.)
- Structural Analysis- Contractions with not (isn't, aren't, wasn't, weren't, hasn't, haven't, can't, etc.)
- High-Frequency Words- away, now, some, today, way, why
- Vocabulary Words- schedule, immediately, weekend, calendar, occasion
- Comprehension Skill- Describe characters, settings, and plot in a story using key details. Cite relevant evidence from text. Retell the text.
- Grammar Skill- Use verbs to convey a sense of past, present, and future (Yesterday I walked home. Today I walk home. Tomorrow i will walk home.)
Unit 3 Week 2 Student Outcomes:
- Phonics/Spelling Skill- Long i: CVCe (like, spike, ride, hide, mine, etc.)
- Structural Analysis- Plurals with CVCe (bites, hives, capes, lakes, snakes, etc.)
- High-Frequency Words- green, grow, pretty, should, together, water
- Vocabulary Words- bloom, sprout, grasped, assist, spied
- Comprehension Skill- Determine plot: sequence. Cite relevant evidence from text. Retell the text.
- Grammar Skill- Use present-tense verbs (They swim in the lake. Jake thumps the drum. The kids wave on the bus.)
Unit 3 Week 3 Student Outcomes:
- Phonics/Spelling Skill- Soft c; Soft g, dge (rice, nice, page, age, wedge, ledge, etc.)
- Structural Analysis- Inflectional Endings -ed, -ing (race, raced, racing)
- High-Frequency Words- any, from, happy, once, so, upon
- Vocabulary Words- tale, hero, timid, foolish, eventually
- Comprehension Skill- Determine Plot: Cause and Effect. Cite relevant evidence from text. Retell the text.
- Grammar Skill- Use past- and future-tense verbs (Mike will fix the fence today. Mike fixed the fence today.)
Unit 3 Week 4: Now and Then
Essential Question: How is life different than it was long ago?
Unit 3 Week 4 Student Outcomes:
- Phonics/Spelling Skill- Long o, u and e: CVCe (hope, nose, note, rope, cube, mute, nice, Pete, these, etc.)
- Structural Analysis- CVCe Syllables
- High-Frequency Words- ago, boy, girl, how, old, people
- Vocabulary Words- century, past, present, future, entertainment
- Comprehension Skill- Describe connections within text: Compare and Contrast. Cite relevant evidence from text. Retell the text.
- Grammar Skill- Use is and are (My name is Max. Their names are Max, Carlos, and Jill.)
Unit 3 Week 5 Student Outcomes:
- Phonics/Spelling Skill- Variant Vowel Spellings with Digraphs: oo, u (book, look, cook, took, full, pull, full, put, etc.)
- Structural Analysis- Inflectional Endings _ed and _ing
- High-Frequency Words- after, buy, done, every, soon, work
- Vocabulary Words- delicious, nutritious, responsibility, enormous, delighted
- Comprehension Skill- Describe the connection between two events, ideas, or pieces of information. Cite relevant evidence from text. Retell the text.
- Grammar Skill- Use contractions with not (is not = isn't, did not = didn't, are not = aren't, does not = doesn't, can not = can't, do not = don't)
