This week was counselor appreciation week. We have the honor of having a very dedicated counseling team that are committed to our students overall success and well-being. Our Colts are very fortunate to have many caring adults at CMS to help guide our students through such a growing phase of their lives. North Texas Teen Book Festival
CMS students have the opportunity to attend the North Texas Teen Book Festival on March 7. This event is open to all CMS students. This is a fantastic event where students can meet popular YA authors, hear them speak, participate in a variety of activities and get books signed. UPCOMING DATES FOR 7TH GRADE
February 19th (this is a date change) - Counselors will meet with current 7th graders through ELA classes to provide guidance over their 8th grade course selections for the 2020-2021 school year. Students will be given a blue course selection sheet to take home and review/discuss with their parents. Course selection sheets are due back to counselors with a parent signature by Tuesday, March 3rd (this is a date change).

GT TESTING
GT Identification Process- Window Closes Friday, March 6th
Referral forms for Gifted & Talented identification will be accepted by middle school counselors Feb. 24-March 6. Testing will take place on campus between March 16 and April 3. Letters will be mailed home and postmarked no later than April 15. Qualified students will be eligible to enroll in GT courses beginning in 2020-2021. You may request a GT referral form from your child’s counselor.
PLAY IT SAFE
The Women’s Center of Tarrant County will be at CMS on the dates listed below. The lessons presented encourage and teach students how to recognize, report, and reduce the risk of being in an abusive and/or dangerous situation. Opt out forms are linked below.

Parent Tech Academy
The next Parent Tech Academy will be Hour of Code: Parent Addition. It will be hosted on February 12 from 6:15 PM to 7:30 PM at the Professional Development Education Center at 5800 Colleyville Boulevard.
Come experience hands-on coding as the GCISD Instructional team brings the hour of code activities to our parents and community.

Math Telescoping Exams
Testing opportunities for telescoping in math for the 2020-2021 school year are available in the spring and summer for GCISD students who are completing Grades K - 7.
The Math Telescoping Information Packet will be available on the district website under the For Parents and Students Directory by selecting the link for Acceleration Exams, Math Telescoping, Grades K - 7.
Parents will find information about the requirements to qualify for Math Telescoping and instructions about the TWO STEP Online Registration Process. There will be links to print the Information Packet, begin the TWO STEP Online Registration Process to register for the spring exams, view the TEKS on the TEA website, and download Study Guides for the exams purchased from UT-Austin.
The online registration form will go live on February 14th for the April 18th test administration.
