Staff Appreciation Week
This week is National Teacher Appreciation Week and although the school building is closed, SHS teachers and staff are working harder than ever and it's time to show our appreciation for all they have done and are continuing to do for our students and families. We have created daily student activities that can be found on the school website which create opportunities for students to share their appreciation.
I also need your help with two additional staff appreciation activities.
Students and parents/guardians may write a short note of thanks. Notes will be shared with the recipients throughout the week. Only the staff member will see the responses. You may fill out this form as many times as you would like for different school personnel. The appreciation note form can be found on the SHS website.
I need your help making a group video! Please add your own video, it's quick & easy, and you'll be part of a memorable surprise. If you have siblings you can submit a joint video and you can also have your parents/guardians join you. This video will be shared with the entire staff Friday and will be posted on the website and our social media sites. You can access the link to submit a video on the school’s website.
Virtual Field Day
This coming Friday, May 8th is National Field Day! Teachers will be sharing the instruction sheet on seesaw or their google classroom pages providing information about how students can participate! Information can also be found on the SHS webpage. We would love to see pictures of students participating in National Field Day using the hashtag #SHSFieldDay. Please feel free to email Mr. Parris if you have any questions or concerns. Have fun!!
Year End Grading Policy
On Thursday, April 23, the North Carolina State Board of Education approved guidelines for teachers to apply when determining final grades. A letter outlining those guidelines has been mailed to all families. Please review the letter carefully and reach out to your child’s teacher if you have questions regarding the new end of year grading expectations.
Week 6 Learning Plans
We will have paper copies of week 6 learning plans and supplemental materials ready for pick up Monday. The packets will be in a box located next to the front door. The paper packets are for students in 3rd-8th grade with no internet service or unreliable connection. In addition, there are packets available for K-2 families based on individual requests.
Remote Learning Feedback Requested
My thoughts go out to those who have been directly affected by the virus in our own family and abroad, as well as to the health care workers and other unsung heroes who are on the front lines.
I have been so proud of our staff's transition to At Home Learning. Their willingness to learn new tools and collaborate with one another to do their best to support all students during this challenging and unique time indicates how much they care about their students and their learning. I also appreciate your continued partnership as I know this has not been easy. Many thanks to each of you for your patience and flexibility as we have transitioned to At Home Learning.
We will continue to review our practices to best meet the needs of our students. Please visit the school website to access the SHS At-Home Learning Family Survey to help us determine the most pressing areas of support and to identify what is currently working well.
Keep soaring Eagles!
