What's Happening!
The weather interrupted the start of this week, however, students got right back into the swing of things as classes resumed on Wednesday. Congratulations to the November students of the month: Katherine Alvarez, Katherine Andre, Lia Nocella and Arth Patel. Many seniors were busy submitting their college applications to meet the early action deadlines! Project in Engineering students have completed the construction of their bridges and will be testing structural integrity in the upcoming weeks. Great job by Jenna Collinge and Reachel Ng'ethe who organized a Halloween dance this past Friday as part of their service learning project. The dance proceeds supported hurricane relief.
Its a busy day and weekend of sports for many of our teams. Boys and Girls soccer both have opening round state tournament games this afternoon. The girls are at home against Littleton at 2:00 and the boys travel to Bartlett. Football will be taking on Ayer/Shirley tonight, while Cross Country competes in the MSTCA Invitational on Saturday. Finally, our Cheer team will be competing in the Mid-Wach League meet Sunday in Marlboro. Your support of our teams is greatly appreciated and we love seeing you out there. Go Tigers!
Have a great weekend!

Check-in will begin at 7:45 am and testing will begin promptly at 8:00 am (no late arrivals will be admitted for testing). Students will need to bring their admission ticket, photo ID (see college board.org for acceptable forms), number 2 pencils and a calculator.
Early action and early decision college deadlines are quickly approaching. Seniors should schedule an appointment to meet with their school counselors to discuss their future plans if they have not already done so.
The deadline to for The Hugh O'Brian (HOBY) Leadership Seminar application has been extended to Monday, November 6th. Applications were given to sophomores during homeroom on Thursday, October 26th. Two sophomore students from THS will be chosen to attend the HOBY Leadership Seminar at Bentley University from June 15th - 17th. Completed applications are due to Mrs. Ward in Student Services. Late applications will not be accepted. HOBY's mission is to inspire and develop our global community of youth and volunteers to a life dedicated to leadership, service, and innovation. Additional information can be found at http://www.hoby.org/about/what-is-hoby. Please contact Mrs. Ward if you have any questions at lisa.ward@tyngsboroughps.org.
The school counseling department will be hosting College Question and Answer meetings for senior parents/guardians on November 9th, and December 7th at 8:00 a.m. This is a great time to learn about the college application process. Please RSVP to Elizabeth Hartigan at Elizabeth.Hartigan@tyngsboroughps.org at least 48 hours in advance.
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application is now available to complete. This application can be found at fafsa.gov. The FAFSA is the most important application in the financial aid process. All colleges and universities will require the FAFSA before determining a financial aid award. Colleges may also require students to complete a CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE (profileonline.collegeboard.org) and/or a college specific financial aid application. It is important to be aware of each college's financial aid deadlines - missing deadlines could result in missing out on financial aid. For more information on the financial aid process please visit mefa.org.
FAFSA Day Massachusetts is a non-profit, volunteer driven program providing free assistance to students and families seeking to complete the FAFSA. These events will be taking place in high schools, colleges, and libraries across the Commonwealth and will provide one-on-one, step-by-step assistance for families completing the FAFSA. Please visit FAFSADay.org or email fafsaday@gmail.com for more information.

Adopt a family 2017
It is that time of year again, and the Tyngsborough Public School’s sponsored Adopt-A-Family program is beginning its annual efforts as we approach the 2017 holiday season.
The Adopt-A-Family program has been in existence for over forty years and provides assistance to needy families within our community during the holidays. The continued goal of the program is to assist those in need within our community by providing a meal, as well as gifts for children and teens who might otherwise go without. Last year this Adopt-A-Family program was able to assist over 100 needy families and elderly with help from students in our schools, private citizens and a few community businesses. This year will be no different, times continue to be difficult for a growing number of families.
In order to continue to provide assistance, we are reaching out to community members and businesses in the greater community for support. At this time the program is in need of the following:
- Family and children sponsors, please email our Family Liaison Melissa Mallous at Melissa.Mallous@tyngsboroughps.org
- Gift cards to local businesses (Walmart, Target, Market Basket, Old Navy, etc.)
- AAF Gift Basket Raffle - Purchase raffle tickets - AAF tickets can be purchased in the main office of TES, TMS and THS beginning November 6, 2017. The raffle will end on December 7, 2017 and the winters will be announced on December 8, 2017.
- Monetary donations (checks made out to Tyngsborough High School, memo: Adopt A Family Program) can be sent to Tyngsborough Public Schools, 50 Norris Road, Tyngsborough, MA 01879, ATTN: Sharon Fairbanks
If you are interested and able to make a donation, sponsoring a child/family yourself, or as a group, or offering support in another way, please contact one of the Adopt-A-Familycommittee members listed below. We look forward to establishing new partnerships within our community. Your contribution, along with the combined efforts and generosity of many, will ensure another successful season of giving for our neighbors in need.
Warm regards,
Sarah Lewenczuk Melissa Mallous
