Reopening Update

Last Friday afternoon, families received the Phase 2 Hybrid Learning Parent Guide and their child's cohort placement. Please take a look at this document as you prepare yourself and your child for our shift to hybrid learning on April 12.

On Wednesday of this week, we held a parent meeting to walk through Sycamore's plan for welcoming our students back to campus. For those who missed it, you can access the Zoom recording here:

Over the next two weeks, you will notice some adjustments to the schedule of the school day. At the start of this year, teachers revamped their classroom environment for online learning. Now they’ll need to adjust the space for in-person learning. To support this, the District set aside some time on Tuesday, March 23 for teachers to get their classrooms ready. This is a welcome help to teachers who are already using evenings and weekends to prepare for Phase 2. On Tuesday, March 23, teachers will meet with their class for 30 minutes at 8:45 am, then assign asynchronous work for the remainder of the day. Look to your child’s Canvas page for greater detail on the revised schedule.

Between March 24 and April 2, teachers, students and family members will be meeting for Student-led Conferences. These conferences align with the end of the second trimester and provide an opportunity to reflect on each student's growth so far this year. Teachers have already begun the process of having families sign up for individual conference times. To create time for these meetings, your child may have more asynchronous time and a revised afternoon schedule. Please review your classroom Canvas page for detail and contact your child's teacher to sign up for a Student-led Conference. You can watch for your child's second trimester progress report in the mail. You should receive it over Spring Break.

We appreciate your flexibility and support during these busy weeks.

Thank you for all you're doing,

Amy Stanger

Indoor Science School

Each year, our sixth graders enjoy a week long trip to science school in the San Bernardino Mountains. This year, we'll be hosting a virtual event, a one-of-a-kind INDOOR SCIENCE SCHOOL. All week long, sixth graders will engage with science-related curriculum in "cabin groups" of their sixth grade peers. On Friday, students picked up a special swag bag including their science journal, supplies for lessons, a camp shirt and a few surprises. On Wednesday and Thursday afternoon, they'll pick up a second treat, one they'll enjoy during Thursday night's skit night. We were able to make this event possible due to the hard work of staff and the generosity of those who donated to Governance Council fundraisers. We thank you!

Claremont Educational Foundation Toyota Raffle

Claremont Educational Foundation has long been a supporter of Claremont's students. As a part of their fundraising and partnership with schools, CEF holds an annual Toyota car raffle. Claremont Toyota has donated a brand new 2021 Toyota Rav 4 to this year's raffle, and on June 5 one person will be the lucky winner. Tickets sell for $20. Seven dollars of each ticket comes back to our school, and the balance of the ticket price is profit for CEF. In turn, CEF donates those funds back to CUSD to support the arts and technology. We will sell tickets in the school office, if you call ahead. We encourage you to participate!
