Kleb Intermediate, August 2016 Back to School Edition
The Principal's Message
Dear Kleb Parents and Students,
Welcome back, Bearcubs! It is hard to believe that the 2016-2017 school year is just around the corner! We are so very excited to see our returning Bearcubs, and extend a warm welcome to our incoming sixth graders and new students! I want to assure both parents and students that the faculty and staff of Kleb Intermediate strive to make the back to school transition an exciting and smooth experience for all involved. It is our goal to continue to make Kleb a place of learning where students enjoy coming to school, day in and day out.
There are many exciting changes coming to our new school year at Kleb! Our #KlebFutureReady 1:1 technology roll out will occur on August 31, and I couldn't be more excited! The KISD Future Ready 21 Program is a board approved initiative where all Kleb students, starting with the 16-17 school year, will have a Chromebook device checked out to them to use on and off campus for the school year. In an effort to keep you in the loop on all things 1:1, we will be hosting three 1:1 parent meetings to talk about the details on student Chromebooks. Attending a 1:1 meeting is optional, yet encouraged as pertinent information such as device usage pricing and payment ($30 for the year), online student safety, and more will be covered. These meetings are identical, so choose the date and time that fits best for your family! Dates and times are listed below.
Also, we will be allowing students to carry their backpacks all day this year to facilitate carrying ease of the device and academic materials. Although the device comes with a sturdy carrying case and strap, we feel that a two-strap backpack adds an extra measure of protection and transport ease from class to class. No string back packs will be allowed as they are not sturdy enough to carry materials and/or device on a daily basis. Due to this change, all incoming 6th graders will automatically be assigned a locker, while 7th and 8th grade students will be assigned a locker on a request only basis during the first week of school through the assistant principal's office. For further information on backpacks and or lockers, please contact your child's counselor.
As we gear up for the new school year, I would like to inform you of upcoming activities and events scheduled in the near future at Kleb Intermediate:
- Thursday, August 11: Parent 1:1 Technology Meeting @6:30 p.m. in the Kleb Cafeteria- This is the first meeting offered out of three identical opportunities to learn more about the #KlebFutureReady 1:1 device roll out scheduled for August 31!

The school supply sale will occur in a come and go fashion from 12 to 3 pm for 7th and 8th graders and from 4 to 6 pm for 6th graders and new students (in conjunction with New Student Orientation; see below). A KISD Food Service representative will also be available to dispense students’ lunch pins numbers and assist with any food service account questions.

I'm new to Kleb...What exactly is Bearcub Den?
Bearcub Den is a multi-faceted, 30-minute classroom period (daily, after lunch/before 5th period) where students will receive a variety of structured opportunities with a Bearcub Den teacher/class. Such opportunities include:
- Weekly character development lessons (occurring at the beginning of the year for two weeks and every Monday after that);
- Standards-driven instructional intervention and support (as needed, occurs in 3-week cycles that run Tuesday-Friday)
- Den Hall- a time to see other teachers and make-up work and/or time to independently work on homework, assignments, TPSP projects, etc. (Tuesday through Friday)
- Silent, sustained reading days with student book of choice (every Tuesday and Friday)
It is our goal at Kleb Intermediate to grow and develop our students both academically and socially. Bearcub Den will help facilitate the time and structure needed to reach our goals. We look forward to working with your students in this capacity to ensure success and learning for all!
From the Student Handbook: Exiting a Pre-AP Course
Exiting a PreAP Course:
A student may exit Pre-AP courses at the end of the first semester and must have teacher, parent, and administrator approval. Students and parents should have the benefit of knowing the semester grade before making an exit decision. Students should consider exiting a course at the end of the first semester if they do not maintain at least a “C” average for the semester. Please contact your child’s counselor prior to the start of school if you wish to make any Pre-AP course adjustments.
