Message from the Principal
On Friday afternoon the Principal of Parkside Elementary School, Tammie Stewart, called to thank our staff and students for making quite an impression on 5th grade students and teachers. She couldn't’ tell who had a better time, the teachers or the students because they could not stop talking about their experience at LWIT/LWTHS. She shared how her teachers and students were so excited about all that they learned and they want to come back next year. One young lady told her she wanted to be a PCT when she grew up. Thank you for all the time you dedicated to sharing your programs with students. I know that it takes a lot of time but you and your students were well prepared to share our programs and you made quite an impression as reflected in the 5th grade students’ comments below:
- I learned that there is a lot you can do in life.
- For this field trip it was so fun and cool and if I’m able to come what I might do is dental, nurse, or make-up and hair. (Love you guys)
- I liked that we got to get our nails done and the chair was vibrating. One day I would like to do hair.
- Something I liked was the boats which are awesome. Also, there are big houses in drafting. One was big, like 100 ft. tall.
- It was amazing.
- I liked to be here and I liked everything about this school and I loved the cookie.
- I think this field trip was amazing! As a matter of fact I think I should come here for culinary.
- My favorite part was the airplane mechanics and the boats.
- The tour guides!
I think it was cool to sand the bumper
I liked the class multimedia, I would like to be in that class when I come to LWIT.
I learned that if baby ran out of oxygen they use a thing to give it air. They take out blood out of arms. My favorite part was the nails.
I like when we went to the dental and when we got to see the robots.
- Marine, I love it!
- I liked the airplane mechanics.
- I found out many new things like how they get their blood out, go to be a dentist and got my nails done. I was so excited to come hopefully I can come here when I’m in High School.
This school is great! I would suggest more cookies, because they were really good!
I really like the doctor and nursing room, and I never knew that I wanted to be a doctor or a nurse until I came to Lorenzo walker. Now I can’t wait to go home and tell my parents all about Lorenzo and how much I want to come here to become a nurse or a doctor! This school is really cool!
I learned that they make commercials.
I loved everything! It was one of the best things I experienced. I don’t think you should do anything differently. It was fantastic when I got to learn about a few tools in dentistry. It was also fun when we all learned how to check if your tires are good with just a penny! This school gives me joy so thank you.
I liked the simulation lab it was awesome. I loved it so much. The simulation lab taught me a lot today. I think it was the best part of the tour because it was very interesting and amazing. I can’t wait to learn more. I really think it was fun.
- I enjoyed everything I never knew how fun it could be. I will never forget how fun school is for the rest of my life.
- The students in auto collision taught me how to sand and Kevin was cute.
I loved learning about 3-D printer and all of the things they built, and also learning about all the doctoring things.
I liked the architectural design because I love mini things and crafts. I loved it also because it’s something I enjoy to do even at my house.
I learned that it could take five years to build airplanes. I also learned that you get paid a lot in machines, planes, and car engines and also boats.
- I don’t like this school, I love it! I love this school because it is very fun!
- This school is awesome!
The comments are only a few of the hundreds that we have gathered from students. On Monday, we welcome the last group of 5th graders from Avalon Elementary. Thank you Bud Ray, Benjamin Kurke, Armando Padilla, Chris Fowler, Tony Singleton, Jeannette Kostka, Lin Flood, Bruce Peters, Diane Perez, Kirk Jervis, Rick Ponton, Cynthia Battle, Chef Geri, Debbie Hoofer, Oliva Ralston, Joann Cassio, Jeff Rexford and Ariel Pechokas for your commitment to making the 5th grade visits a success.
In other news, on Friday, Bob Jackson took a group of students to compete in the 2nd Annual CCPS Business Competition at Hodges University. Congratulations to Sixto Dominguez, Arisay Gonzales, and Edward Valdez who won 2nd place. Also, LWTHS and LWIT were well represented at the 2nd annual STEM Conference at Florida Southwestern College. Dave Gabriel took a group of 9th graders to compete in geocaching. The students had a fun time traipsing through the Florida Southwestern campus in search of clues and solving math and science problems. Rick Ponton and student Daylin Baez spent their morning capturing the 4th grade Little Bit competition on film at the FSW.
FInally, the weekend wrapped up with the crowning of Prom Queen, Tenequa Smith, and Prom King, Kevin Prado. The students danced the night away at the Grecian themed prom at the Naples Beach Club, while Joann Cassio looked on like a proud mama. Thank you Joann for always making the night a special one for our students.

Did you know... that Google’s Education on Air conference last week is archived? You can view Day 1 here.
Instructional Strategy - Helping Students Practice Skills, Strategies, and Processes (Marzano element #19), as the strategy indicates, is a focus on practice. Developing habits involves repetition, but it can be better monitored and adjusted when you can review the practice. Here’s where the Paper Slide comes into play! This strategy can be used for a variety of purposes and essentially boils down to creating a video in ‘one-take’ with limited resources (primarily paper!). Lindsey Simmons recently used the strategy to help her students better understand Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream by first storyboarding and then using the Paper Slide strategy to video the acts and scenes, complete with paper character cut-outs, backgrounds and props. Check out this playlist!
One could also use as a strategy for helping students develop math skills, practice safety equipment procedures, and even subject-specific vocabulary. How might you use this strategy?
Did you miss Tech Tool Tuesday last week? I did, too! :) So, we will make-up part 2 of Nearpod session on Tue, May 19th instead and we will conclude this school year on Tues, May 26th at 2:35pm in 2-233. You will leave with an inspirational tool to help your students develop new skills and knowledge.
