A few words and pictures from Lisa!
This summer I saw an advertisement for a Beginner Bollywood dance class. I’m not sure what compelled me to check it out, but I did and was quickly hooked. Bollywood is a fusion of Indian folk dance and modern dances like R&B and hip hop. There are no defined rules like classical dance styles. The music is usually upbeat and the costumes very vibrant. For a time, I was the only non-Indian in our class, a bit of a novelty, I think. The Indian women welcomed me warmly and shared their love of dance and their beautiful culture. It was a wonderful, rewarding experience on a personal level and very challenging for the beginner dancer that I am. The photos I am sharing are from our final dance performance a few weeks ago. We performed in front of a few hundred people as a fundraiser to build homes for homeless people in India. It was both terrifying and thrilling! :) This experience taught me that when we take a chance and open ourselves to new experiences, magic can happen.
This year's first Trivia Winners will be crowned at F2F PD in December!
Share something about you that your colleagues may not know and you would feel comfortable with them knowing. We will include this as a question in a future roadmap.

Pre-Work for F2F Department Meeting - Action Required
1) Watch this 3-min. recording: https://screencast-o-matic.com/watch/cFXuFhrr8j
- Using the cliff analogy, at which level of prevention are you spending most of your time? Why do you think that?
- At which level of prevention do you think you SHOULD be spending most of your time? Why?
- As a Student Support Services Department, what do you think is the optimal distribution of support at each level (e.g. 33% at each level)? Why?
3) Write/type out your answers to the above questions and bring with you to our meetings.

Confidential Student Issue Records
At times our staff learns of confidential student issues. Oftentimes, these issues will affect a student’s learning, and it is important for involved staff to be made aware. Our process in these cases will be for the administrator to obtain parent permission to share with involved staff and then send an email to or hold a brief phone conference with those staff members to inform them of the situation.
We are obligated to ensure student privacy and follow all FERPA regulations, so it is not permissible to enter details regarding these situations in Total View notes where present and future involved staff can view them. Sometimes it may be beneficial to the student for involved staff to be made aware of an issue that occurred in the past. To accommodate this need, our process will be for the administrator to document the issue in a Word document and add an administrative password. The document will be attached to a TVS note titled “Confidential Student Issue” and will include text stating, “Confidential student issue – contact Head of School if you think you may need further information.” If you find one of your students is experiencing an issue, you can search TVS notes for possible past issues. If you find a note like this, contact the Head of School and describe your concerns. The HOS will review the documentation and determine if the information is relevant and should be shared.
Attention Counselors and Advisors - Review Required
As you all know, we have the master calendar of topics we should be addressing each month, as supported by our student needs assessment data.
Please review the calendar and ensure past months reflect items completed, adding and removing as necessary.
Moreover, moving forward, I am going to start posting the current month's goals. You'll need to ensure you are supporting these areas in the appropriate timeframes. Follow up on task completion will occur during targeting meetings with both Alex and Jessica.
Please let Alex or Jessica know if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
Alex
