January 2021
Note from Kelly Hatton, Principal
Hello, Las Colinas' Families,
Happy New Year to you! As we move into 2021, I know that many of you join me in sending good vibes to the universe for this to be an AMAZING year, and one that is an improvement from the last! We did learn many lessons during that 2020 chapter, and I am proud of all that we accomplished as a community. Thank you for being on this journey with all of us here at Las Colinas. We look forward to a wonderful new year!
With gratitude,
Kelly Hatton, Principal
Happy New Year!
Holiday Toy Drive with Fire Departments of Ventura County
Thank you to all who donated to our annual "Stuff-a-Bus" fundraiser! Although this year was a virtual campaign, our community came together to donate a little over $1000 to Food Share Ventura County to help families facing food insecurity. Thank you for your generosity!

Digital Learning/Virtual Learning Help Needed
If possible, could you please discuss the importance of the following items:
1. Having their video on allows for more engagement in the class lessons.
2. Talking with their peers while in Zoom Break-out rooms allows for more connection.
3. Preparing for their day as they normally would in the morning before school, and sitting at a desk or table creates a more educational, and less casual, environment.
These three adjustments would be really helpful to our teachers, and we are hopeful that they might help to increase engagement. Thank you!!

Congratulations to our SAA, Karen Lariviere, on her retirement!
We are sad to share that our office SAA, Karen, made the move to retire from PVSD, and her last day was the Friday before Break. She had preferred to keep her departure relatively quiet, but we were happy to celebrate her in the office those last few days. We wish Karen much happiness on her next chapter!
Tania Luna and Jessica Alvarado will be taking turns covering her position, and the plan is that interviews for the SAA spot will take place within the next couple of weeks. Please reach out to Tania at tluna@pleasantvalleysd.org and/or Jessica at jalvarado@pleasantvalleysd.org for office items that you might need help with.
Office Hours
Please contact our office to make an appointment to meet with us by calling 805-383-5320 or by emailing Tania Luna or Jessica Alvarado. You may also contact Assistant Principal, Jessie Green at jgreen@pleasantvalleysd.org and Principal Kelly Hatton at khatton@pleasantvalleysd.org. We are happy to help you!!

"Coffee with Kelly"
Please join us Friday, January 15 from 8:45-9:15
Thank you to those families who attended the December "Coffee with Kelly." Parents gave feedback on how things are going with our return to campus, and your feedback was very helpful! Overall, the feedback was incredibly positive, and we thank you so much for your input! At our January meeting, I will be asking for your input on how we as a school community can meet our PVSD Local Control Accountability Plan Goals. I'd love to hear your ideas, so please join us!
We look forward to meeting our new families, and welcoming families we have not seen in a while! Each month, you are invited to gather with Principal Hatton to discuss campus topics. The next "Coffee with Kelly" will take place on Friday, January 15 from 8:45-9:15 am. A Zoom link will be emailed out to families as we get closer to the date.
