Learning Network
The New York Times Learning Network is a jackpot of resources. The site offers timely news stories, and you will also find lesson plans, articles paired with poetry, text-to-text comparisons, skills practice, crossword puzzles, word of the day...I could go on and on. You will want to monitor the content for age-appropriateness because the blog offers content for students from third grade through high school.
CIP
The Comprehensive Instructional Program is a site that features lesson plans, activities, and assessments by superior Virginia teachers. All resources are aligned to the rigor and content of the VA Standards of Learning. Your principal has the username and password for TCPS. You can also contact Susan Rash or Jill Vogel for that information.
Read Works
This site gives “teachers research-proven tools and support they need to improve the academic achievement of their students. ReadWorks provides research-based units, lessons, and authentic, leveled non-fiction and literary passages directly to educators online, for free, to be shared broadly." You will need to create a free account in order to use the ReadWorks materials.
Smithsonian Tribune

According to the website: "This includes a number of classroom activities developed by teachers at FCRR for use in kindergarten through fifth grade classrooms and pedagogical information for empowering teachers with the skills and knowledge for effective instruction in the classroom."
