Spring Is Right Around The Corner!

Spring is coming and with it brings new life and new beginnings. It has been a difficult couple of years to say the least. In the waning days of COVID-19 we are looking forward to Spring to begin our return to normalcy. One of the overlooked side effects of COVID-19 is the impact it has had on our social interactions with one another. Studies have shown that being kind to others is not only good for the people we are nice to, but ourselves as well. Acts of kindness boost serotonin levels and make us feel good. We will be focusing on this in the coming spring season and challenge you to do the same! We are one small community but the impact we can have can be immense.

March is Women’s History Month

At CLS throughout March we will celebrate Women’s History Month each day through morning announcements, with students then watching video biographies of each person, in addition to follow-up activities with their teachers as well. At the conclusion of each week in Cheetah Tracks, the CLS principal’s newsletter, the links to each video will be shared so that parents and their children can have an additional opportunity to watch and discuss the significant figures in Women’s History.

The CLS Winter Reading Challenge Update

The CLS Winter Reading Challenge ran until February 28, with the final tally number totaling over 11,000 books read! That meant we far surpassed our original target of 2,700 books!

Students who participate through the end of February 2022 will earn a FREE ticket to the Bridgeport Islanders game on Saturday, March 19. Members of the Grade 4 and Grade 5 CLS chorus will also be singing a song during intermission that night! We should have a fantastic CLS presence at the game!

The CLS Winter Reading Olympics!

The Winter Olympics may have wrapped up, but we have the CLS Winter Reading Olympics continuing until the last day of winter!

Since we were in the middle of the CLS Winter Reading Challenge, we wanted to encourage all students to read different genres – thus the CLS Winter Reading Olympics were born!

There is a PS – Grade 2 Winter Reading Olympics and a Grades 3 – 5 Winter Olympics and also a Grades 3 – 5 Olympic Reading Challenge. The Winter Reading Olympics runs through the last day of Winter, Friday, March 18, 2022. If students choose to participate, they can earn a bronze, silver, or gold certificate!

March CLS PTA Meeting – Wednesday, March 2, 2022 @ 6:30 p.m.

Read Across America Day and Pajamas Day – Friday, March 4, 2022

On Friday, March 4, CLS teachers will be guest readers in classrooms throughout the school! It’s a fun day for kids to have a potential future or perhaps a teacher from their past read aloud to their class!

We will also have Pajamas/Sweatpants Day on Friday. When we held our Pajamas Day in December, we had several students on quarantine, so we wanted to have another one so all students could participate!

D.E.A.R. – Tuesday, March 15, 2022

All CLS students should have an independent reading book with them throughout the day in preparation when we Drop Everything And Read! No matter when or where our students and staff are, regardless of subject or Unified Arts class, everyone will read for 15 minutes. We will surprise the students with the time, so they will need to have an independent reading book with them throughout the day since you never know when it will be time to Drop Everything And Read!

Rock Your Socks Day – Monday, March 21, 2022

Every year, on March 21, people all around the world come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Day by wearing brightly colored, mismatched socks. March 21 is symbolic because people with Down syndrome have 3 copies of their 21st chromosome. Socks were chosen because the karyotype of DS chromosomes actually looks like mismatched socks!

CLS PTA Scholastic Spring Book Fair – March 22 – 24, 2022

The CLS PTA will hold its annual Spring Book Fair on March 22, 23, and 24, 2022. In addition to being open during the day, there will be evening hours on Wednesday, March 23, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
