It will also be open the evenings of conferences if you would like to shop with your child.

Friday will be an Early Release Day. Please make note that school will dismiss at 1:05 that day. October 12-16 will be Fall Break. We will return to school on October 19th.
Please be sure all library books are returned before break.
Sight Words/Phonics
Sight words: my, in, it, go
Phonics: We completed our introduction of all of the consonant letters. Last week we began taking about the vowels. We are practicing the short sound that the vowels make. Last week we talked about a, i, o. This week we will talk about u, and e and then continue to review all letters and sounds. The children are also working to recognize and produce rhyming words.
Reading
This week we will continue working to retell a story with key details. Students will also be identifying story elements including characters, setting, and major events(problem and solution). This week we will begin reading a book called And The Dish Ran Away With The Spoon. This book is a fractured fairy tale, meaning that there are references to various Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales throughout the book. We will be building some background knowledge with the children by reading a variety of Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales throughout the week . During Daily 5 the children are making choices to work with Read to Self, Read to Someone, Word Work, Listen to Reading, or iPads. While students are working in Daily 5 I am meeting with small guided reading groups. These groups are focused on working with students at their individual levels. We are working to put into play the skills we talk about in class. The children are beginning to read leveled books and then respond in writing about them.
Writing
This week we will be writing responses to different Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales. The children will be doing narrative writing to describe a single event from those rhymes. We are working to begin our sentence with a capital letter and finger space between each word. The children are also working on letter sound connection by tapping out each word they want to write and writing the sounds that they hear.
Math
We have been working on counting, reading and writing the numbers 6-10. The children have been counting groups of objects in different arrangements and writing the number to tell how many. We will review and test over this topic this week.
