Getting Involved in Extra-Curriculars

This week, a lot of new activities are getting started. First we want to remind parents to ask daily if a student will be staying for any activity. Students, if you need to let your parents know that you will be staying after school, please come down to the office or ask your teacher to use the classroom phone. Parents, please do not communicate with your child on their cellphones during the school day as phones may be confiscated following the District's no cell phone policy.

Lastly, it is expected that students are involved in at least one extra curricular activity as research shows the high correlation between involvement, connectedness, and academic and social emotional success.

Activities This Week

FITNESS CLUB - Fitness Club is finally here! The first meeting will be on Monday, September 12 at 2:25 in room F 105. If you want to join the club, you need to fill out a google form to reserve your spot. Fitness Club will cover all the different formats that are offered in commercial gyms!
It will be filled with fun activities that will help you reach your fitness goals!! You can also email questions to Ms. Watkins at watkinsm@ccsd15.net

ROBOTICS CLUB - Would you like to design and build a remote control robot that you can drive around? Would you like to add attachments to your robot, including at least one powerful claw? Then you should join WCJH Robotics Club! We will meet afterschool on Tuesdays in G116. All are welcome!

Club starts Monday, September 19th. Meet by the front office door at the start of your lunch period. Mrs. Teuscher is the Club leader.

BAKING CLUB - In baking club we will explore the joy of planning, creating, and eating baked items! Students will learn how to successfully follow recipes in a safe and monitored environment. They will have a chance to search for recipes and bring them to life with their club members. Reach out to Ms. Silva for more information!

Home Basketball Games

This week we have three home girls basketball games:

Expectations at Sporting Events

Sportsmanship

Attending Winston Campus home sporting events means you are expected to cheer respectfully. To do so, we…

  • Cheer for our team at appropriate times and are quiet at appropriate times, including when someone is injured and during free throws
  • Use school-appropriate language
  • Don’t say anything to the refs - good or bad
  • No Cell phones Allowed - used with supervisor permission only.

Leadership

  • Make Winston proud; the choices you make should support our teams, but it should do so positively.

Safety

  • Follow directions given to you by staff supervisors.
  • Walk up/down the bleachers and remain seated once you are there.
  • If you need to leave the bleachers to go to the bathroom or to leave for the day, please do it during a break in play with permission from a supervisor. Please stay away from the area of play.

If you have any questions during the event, please ask a supervisor!

Lockers

  • There is no sharing of lockers.

  • Keep your locker combination private and do not share it with anyone

  • Be sure that there is nothing, especially a jacket or part of your bag, by the latches on the inside of the locker. (It will jam if something is caught on the latch when the locker is closed, and you will not be able to get in it!)

  • Be sure that you close your locker before you walk away from it - There have been an unusual number of lockers left open!

Chromebook Reminders

  • The always-on case should always be on your Chromebook

  • Keeping your password private is more important than you can imagine. Your teachers do have access to your password if needed, and you should share it with your parent(s). You should not share your password with anyone else!

  • It is critical that you charge your Chromebook each night, Sunday through Thursday at a minimum. If you are bringing a fully-charged Chromebook to school, you do not need to charge it at school, and you do not need to bring your power cord to school. (Unfortunately, our classrooms, like most schools in our area, are not designed to safely charge devices at school.)

Reporting an Absence

If your student will be absent for any reason, please give us a call on the attendance line.
