What's Going on in Classrooms at BSE

This week, I was able to observe a great example of a word work station. The teacher had students working on synonyms and antonyms at different DOK levels. In one group, the students were using words and pictures to help identify opposites. In another group, students were using magnetic letters/cookie sheets to make their own pairs of opposites. Two other stations included use of the iPADS and computers. Students at the p.board were matching up pairs of opposites. While those working with the teacher were reviewing synonyms. I loved that the teacher had a group she was reviewing with, but also had activities that challenged students in the other groups.

I was able to walk around and chat with some of these 1st graders as they were working....and they all could tell me exactly what they were working on. Not only were they "Learning by Doing" but they were able to "Talk the Talk". Can all students talk the talk as to what they are learning? How do you know they can? In upcoming observations, look for us to have more conversations with students.....
