Reminders

April 21st is Bingo Night is at 6:30 pm. PTA has some great prizes and fun planned for you all! We will be there to yell BINGO!
WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
Language: Children will be able to identify the letters and should be able to name all the vowel letters-a,e,i,o,u. Please continue to review these letters at home. We will be playing the game Make It, Break It. In this game we will say a word like "fox" then we will break it a part. We will say the first sound and leave the rest of the word in tact- /f/-ox. We are verbally teaching blending of words and we will review rhyming and segmenting words. This becomes a skill as we head toward reading. We are making a portfolio of written work.
Math: Your child will be able to rote count to 30 (4 year olds) and rote count to 10 (3 year olds) and starting on measurement. We will be measuring each child's height. We will be working with words-tall,taller, tallest, short, shorter, shortest. We are also continuing to review all our shapes and colors.
Social Studies: Your child will be learning about different environments on our planet. We will look at the farm habitat and the jobs the people do on a farm. We are looking for how people are the same and different.
Science:Your children have been learning the importance of insects and how they help and hurt our enviroment . We have had terrariums with rollie pollies (pill bugs/sow bugs) for about 2 weeks. This week we will have pray mantises, lady bugs, and caterpillars for a butterfly called a "Painted Lady." We will be releasing our ladybugs on Thursday. We will continue watching our barn bug habitats and later on large wild animal habitats.
Next week we start a new unit the week of April 24th- ANIMALS. We will start with Farm Animals. Get your E-I-E-I-O with Old MacDonald in the car.
LOVE THE EARTH? CELEBRATE EARTH DAY!
Earth Day Activities - This Week
- Waste Free Lunches- please try and send reusable containers with your child for lunches this week! If your child plans to buy lunch, please encourage them to "flip, tap and stack" their lunch trays- flip their trays over the trash can, tap the food out and stack it on the table to reduce space taken up in the trash cans.
- There will be green leaves passed out to the teachers for each student to sign as a pledge for Earth Day, which will then be assembled into a tree! Please encourage your child to pledge something that will help reduce/reuse/recycle- ideas include turning off water to brush teeth, taking a 5 minute or less shower, recycling as much materials at home as possible, reusable bags when shopping, etc.
- Wear GREEN/or Earth Day Shirts on Friday, April 21st in honor of Earth Day (Saturday, April 22nd).
