Principal's Corner
Birchwood Families,
Happy New Year! We hope you had a wonderful holiday season filled with joy, laughter, and precious moments with your loved ones. I enjoyed time with my husband, kids and grandkids. It was a much-needed break to rest and prepare for the remainder of the year.
Winter Weather:
Please ensure your child comes to school dressed warmly as temperatures drop. Outdoor recess will continue whenever possible, so hats, gloves, and warm jackets are essential for staying comfortable during playtime.
Reminders:
Attendance: Regular attendance is crucial for academic success. Please ensure your child attends school on time each day.
Communication: If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher or the school office. Open communication is key to a successful partnership.
Thank you for your continued support. We look forward to a fantastic and successful second half of the school year!
Warm Regards,
Tammy Hershman M.Ed.
Principal, Birchwood ABC

After School Sports Club:
Our first sports club for the year will roll out January 16th.
The Junior Native Youth Olympic Club will be available for all 1st-5th grade students. There are two forms to fill out, a registration and a waiver release. You can print them off and return them to the office, email them to olson_kirk@asdk12.org, and physical copies are in the media rack. Students have been introduced to some of these indigenous games during PE, so you may have discovered they are already “training” at home. There will be limited enrollment for this club and we will meet twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm-4:45pm.

The 52nd annual Anchorage School District youth art show is a collaboration between the Anchorage Museum and Anchorage School District celebrating young artists. This presentation of student art gives kindergarten through high school students the opportunity to showcase their artworks in a museum. Teachers select the pieces, which include drawings, paintings, multimedia works, photography, jewelry, and sculpture. Join us in congratulating our 2024 selected artists.
Visiting Artist
Visiting Artist Delaney Smith - Vaughn from Denton, Texas will be in residence on May 6th and 7th. During Delaney's visit, all students will have the opportunity to learn about paper-making, recycling art, conservation, and sculpture casting. This hands-on workshop will not only enhance their artistic skills but also instill a sense of responsibility for the environment and promote creativity and innovation.

We are excited to share an initiative that promotes healthy eating and supports our Student Council. Full Circle delivers a wide variety of fresh fruits and vegetables all year round, ensuring you and your family have access to healthy options. When you subscribe, 12% of each order goes directly to our Student Council, helping us fund important projects and activities at our school.
