MISSION: IGNITING A PASSION FOR LEARNING
Message from the Principal
Happy December, Farmington Families!
What a wonderful month of December we have had! The classrooms have been buzzing with their usual learning energy, with the holiday excitement sprinkled in as well. We know that this excitement can also be a little overwhelming for some students, so we have been purposeful in leading students in activities that help them stay calm, focused and ready to learn!
It's hard to believe that the 2021 year is coming to a close. We are looking forward to the new year and are hopeful that all of our FES families have a healthy and happy 2022!
Take Care,
Principal Petersen

Updates from Around the Building
FES PBIS Update
In December we focused on building relationships with students and our school community. We began our buddies program where students K-2 were partnered with a buddy in 3-5 to work on mutual respect and teamwork. We ended the month with a school wide Grinch Day and had a great time working together as a school. In January we are working towards a PBIS Family sledding night at Camp Awana! More information will come out in early January but save the date of January 25th from 6-7:30.
Save the Date!
Farmington’s Family Learning Night is back for 2022, so mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 18th from 6:00-7:30. Our theme this year is “Try Something New!” so be prepared to do just that! As always, the evening will be filled with fun and engaging learning activities for the entire family as well as some tasty snacks. We hope to see you there!

A Message From Our School Psychologist, Steve Erdmann:
Many of our students are eagerly awaiting the holiday break. However the holidays are also a difficult time for many families. If you or your child are having difficulty over break, here are some simple tips from the National Alliance on Mental Illness to help maintain your mental health during the holiday season.
I have been so impressed with the generosity and community spirit that has shown up in our elementary buildings every day. I hope you all have a wonderful holiday break. Please reach out to staff at Farmington Elementary if you need any additional support.
-Mr. Erdmann
A Message From Our School Counselor, Carmen Klenner:
Dear FES Families, as we prepare for Winter Break, I want to say thanks to the generosity of our school community, we are able to assist 8+ families from our very own school community. Thank you to all families who donated. All recipients were extremely grateful by your generosity.
With the time off school, excitement is likely to build. Here is a wonderful FREE resource that parents might find helpful. After you complete the 5-10 minute survey, a report gets emailed to you with a summary of the struggles you listed and quick tricks/tips to help you navigate those struggles.

Fifth grade news:
A parent permission slip was sent home on Thursday afternoon with your child to participate in the rollout of a new app called CloseGap. This app will be used in conjunction with Second Step (taught by Mrs. Wenzlaff) and Life Skills Curriculum (taught by Mrs. Klenner) to help your child identify his or her emotions and reflect on how to better regulate those emotions, as well as connect with a school staff member when the emotions are needing the assistance of an adult. Thanks for getting those forms in as soon as possible so your child can get started. (As we are piloting the use of this app, individual students who appear to be struggling with emotional regulation (worries, anger, sadness, hyperactivity, etc.) can also be given access to this app by teacher or parent request. If your child is in a different grade level, other than 5th, and you would like him or her to participate in this opportunity, please contact me by email or phone at: 262-626-3102 x7110 or cklenner@kewaskumschools.org).
Have a wonderful break and feel free to reach out if I can be of any assistance to your child and your family. FES staff wishes you relaxation, safety, and health as we roll into the new year!
