Message from the Principal

GLOW Students & Families,

We are moving quickly through the 2nd quarter, and believe it or not Q2 Progress Reports go out next week! This is often a busy time of year for families, but also a critical time of year for learning. Please make every effort to make sure that unless your child is feeling ill that she is on time and in attendance at school.

This week, you may hear your friends in NHCS mention that they do not have school on Tuesday of this week. While that is the case for NHCS, that is NOT the case for students at GLOW! We are in school, business as usual on Tuesday; however, you can look forward to the long weekend ahead, as there will be no school on Friday in observance of Veterans Day.

FriendsGiving Sign Up

Friendsgiving is BACK! The GLOW Academy PTO is hosting its annual Friendsgiving Staff Luncheon on Monday, November 21st. This is a great opportunity to celebrate our amazing teachers & staff. To sign up, click HERE.

Recess Equipment Drive (from Middle School SGA)

Our Middle School Student Government Association is hosting a recess equipment drive. Items include, but are not limited to, hula hoops, soccer balls, chalk, jump ropes and more! Please check out the Amazon wishlist to contribute by clicking here. You can also participate by donating your own gently used equipment. Thank you so much for your support. We are excited to get moving and having fun.

LAST CHANCE FOR SENIORS

Herff Jones will be on campus this Wednesday, November 9th. This is the LAST CHANCE for seniors to order their cap & gown and class ring.

Class of 2023 (Seniors) FAFSA Q&A

The North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority is hosting a step-by-step walkthrough of the online FAFSA so you can know what to expect and have your questions answered by financial aid professionals in real time. Class of 2024 (Juniors) Best Self First

11th Grade students will participate in a half day experience at GLOW Academy on Thursday, November 10th, 8:30-12:25 p.m. This signature program focuses on supporting students in promoting their skills, talents, and accomplishments. Please be sure to have your student come in formal uniform (polo shirt and skirt or pants). View the invitation here !

Pajama Drive

The 9th grade AVID class is sponsoring a school-wide PJ drive here at GLOW Academy to help New Hanover Pajama Jams deliver new jammies to kids in need this holiday season.

Collection starts on Monday, 11/7 and ends on Wednesday, 12/7. Bring in a pair of new pajamas from size 5T to Adult Large (no used PJ’s will be accepted). Boxes will be placed in the main office and Lowe Hall.

College Admission Workshops

The Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC) offers free resources to support students and families in preparing for college. These workshops are geared towards senior families, but junior families may also benefit from hearing the information. Consider registering for these upcoming sessions:

Affording College (Applying for Financial Aid, CSS Profile, Scholarship Opportunities) Monday, November 7 @ 7 pm Eastern (Virtual) - Register here This workshop is aimed to support and inform students and parents through the Financial Aid and Scholarship Process.

🤧 Cold & Flu Season is Here

Cold and flu season is upon us. To prevent widespread flu, GLOW will be following the recommendations and guidelines outlined by the CDC and New Hanover County Health Department:

Please do not send your child to school if she has or has had:

fever of 100 degrees or higher within the last 24 hours (must be fever-free without medication for 24 hours before returning to school)
Vomiting or diarrhea within the last 24 hours.
Symptoms that make it hard for your child to participate in school such as frequent coughing, headache, body aches, fatigue, earaches.
Strep Throat- until on antibiotics 24 hr.

COVID Testing Available

COVID diagnostic testing will be available to students at GLOW for the 2022-23 school year. Online registration must take place before testing can occur (Note: registration from last school year is no longer valid). Please register as soon as possible in anticipation of future testing throughout the school year. Use this link to register Coqui Health Registration for GLOW. Calling All Artists

Coastal Horizons is now accepting submissions of art in any medium to its Annual Virtual Art Auction: “By Kids and Kids at Heart, For Kids.”

Proceeds from the Art Auction will go to benefit Our Children's Place (OCP) of Coastal Horizons, a statewide program committed to the children of incarcerated and returning parents. For more details and guidelines for submissions, click HERE.

New Hanover County Community Remembrance Project Essay Contest

The New Hanover County Community Remembrance Project, in conjunction with the Equal Justice Initiative (EJI), based in Montgomery, Alabama, is sponsoring an essay contest for all 9th-12th grade public high school students in New Hanover County. At least $5,000 prize money will be awarded to the winner(s) of this contest. We would like you to make your students aware of this contest. The contest launches September 1, and the final date for entry of an essay is December 15, 2022.
