A Message to Parents Regarding Volunteering
We are excited to share that starting on Monday, April 4th we will begin welcoming volunteers back into our schools! We know that it has been a long time since we’ve been able to have volunteers inside our buildings, and we can’t wait to welcome back our families and caregivers in this way.
Current regulations from the Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Department of Education will require that all volunteers are either vaccinated for COVID or have an approved exception form. Vaccination cards will be shown to front office staff at the start of your first volunteer date and will not need to be shown again on subsequent dates. Exceptions forms will need prior approval from our human resources department, and can be found here: Medical Exception Request or Religious Exception Request. Completed exception forms should be emailed to Steve Emmert at semmert@sherwood.k12.or.us for approval, then Human Resources will notify the Admin Assistant in the location where the volunteer will be serving.
All volunteers will also need to confirm that they are free from COVID symptoms prior to volunteering. Attestation questions will be added to the volunteer check-in process and will be completed by volunteers each time they arrive at the school. If you are scheduled to volunteer and have been exposed to COVID or have had COVID symptoms in the last five days we will ask that you please reschedule for another volunteer date.
Finally, all volunteers will need to complete a background check form prior to volunteering (please allow for a 7-10 day processing time). That form can be found linked here.
School wide opportunities for volunteering will be shared by our Parent Support Organization (PSO). If you are not currently signed up as a volunteer through our PSO please visit their webpage linked here.
Scheduled Conferences will be held Thursday, April 14th from 4:30 to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, April 15th from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. by appointment only. Teachers will be calling the parents of those students who they feel might benefit the most from having a parent-teacher conference. Teachers will not be available for drop in conferences. Conferences will be in person at SMS unless a virtual conference is requested by the parent. Masks are not required.
Staff vs. Students Basketball Game: On Friday, April 22nd, we will have a staff vs. student basketball game. Students have the option to sign up to play in the game if they are interested. Twelve students from each grade will be randomly selected. The games will be by grade level and will take place prior to the end of the school day on April 22nd.

Information From Prior Week
Excusing Absences in ParentVue: In addition to the current phone and email methods for excusing absences, beginning after spring break, parents of middle and high school students will also be able to excuse absences through ParentVUE. This new method is available only for full-day absences for the current day and future days.
To excuse an absence through ParentVUE, click the "Report Absence" button next to your student's picture on the home screen. Then, select the date(s) and choose a reason for the absence. You may also enter a note and upload any supporting documents. Click "Save" to submit. The attendance office will review your submission and update your student's attendance record.
SBAC Testing is coming. SBAC Testing will take place in May. As in the past, parents will have the opportunity to opt their student(s) out of testing. More information and the opt out form will be provided as we move closer to the test dates.
