From School Administrators
Special Recognition to Our Amazing Substitute Teachers!
We are incredibly fortunate to have amazing substitute teachers at Clemens Crossing Elementary School. Our staff and teachers' absences have increased this year resulting in the need for more substitute teachers. Without these amazing substitute teachers, we would not be able to continue the high level of instruction on a daily basis. Their time and commitment is greatly appreciated.
Please join me, Mrs. Gittleson, and the rest of the CCES staff in thanking our regular and frequent substitute teachers.
Thank you goes out to:
- Mrs. Dani Gardner
- Mrs. Janet Roylo
- Mrs. Elaine McAuliffe
- Mrs. Ruth MacDonald
- Mrs. Christy Pine
- Mrs. Sahar Qafuri
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. devoted his life to realizing the dream of freedom, equality, peace, and economic and social justice. At Clemens Crossing Elementary School, we are committed to advancing that dream by ensuring equitable access to education for all our beautiful and capable students, and we thank you for the work you do to help.
School is closed on Monday, January 17, in recognition of Dr. King. Each year, instead of having a day off, the third Monday in January is a day for volunteerism to help communities all over our country. I encourage you to learn more about Dr. King and figure out ways to further his vision through service to our community. There are many opportunities throughout Columbia, Howard County, and Maryland to help make January 17 a "DAY ON" and a day of service.
Have a great MLK Weekend!
Mr. Cosentino
NEW INFORMATION
Updates on Personal Protective Equipment
In addition to masks, we continue to have a large supply of unused face shields from last March when we reopened for hybrid learning. Parents can request to have those face shields for their children if needed.
Finally, we continue to have plenty of hand wipes and hand sanitizer for anyone within our school building.

Outdoor Lunch
There will be days where we must have indoor lunch for students who typically eat outside.
Indoor lunch for those students will be when there is any rain or snow falling or when the blacktop is covered with snow and/or ice. When outdoor lunch students eat in a classroom, they will be spaced apart from other students with plastic partitions.
Conference Scheduling
In the next issue, we will have directions for the February parent/teacher conferences. The conference scheduling window will open on January 28 and close on February 4. Conferences will take place between February 10 and 11.
Annual CCES Read-a-Thon
The Annual CCES Read-a-Thon is nearly complete! All forms and donations are due by Friday,
January 14, 2022. The homeroom with the most participation will earn a Starbucks gift card for their teacher! Please visit the PTA website for more details https://clemenscrossingpta.org/programs-and-events/read-a-thon/ and thanks for all who have already submitted their Winter Reading Challenge and logged donations!
From the PTA
The PTA wants to thank everyone who sent in food from our Backpack Bundles wish list. We received so many packages and are grateful to be a part of such a generous community.
While the official “Thankful Thursdays” were discontinued after Thanksgiving, the PTA still encourages parents to drop off store-bought, individually wrapped treats for the teachers. Sweet and salty foods are all appreciated. Items can be dropped off in the front office any day of the week. Thank you!
