West Maple History Bee 3rd-5th grade
We had our first practice session for the History Bee. We went over the rules and procedures for the Bee. The first round of questions will be multiple choice. The second round of questions will be open ended. Students will have 30 seconds to answer each question. If a student gives and incorrect answer he/she is out of the Bee.
Monday December 10 is the last practice session for the History Bee at 8:15 AM in the school library. We will practice with the timer and some open ended questions.
The History Bee will take place on December 17th at 2 PM in the cafeteria.
Battle of the Books: Grades 4 and 5
Here is how it works. Students form a team of 4 to 6 students in Birmingham School District. Students on one team may attend different schools. One parent of those students needs to volunteer to be a coach. Teams come up with a team name. Coaches register the members of the team, encourage students to read the books, may host group study sessions, and make sure important dates and information is communicated to the team.
Students read as many of the 6 battle books as they can. Teams may choose to attend one of Mrs. Betts' "Cram Sessions" for practice answering questions. Teams may also choose to attend book talks hosted at Baldwin Public Library. On the day of the battle students will sit with their teams at Groves High School and answer 20 trivia questions about the books. Teams are encouraged to dress up to represent their team name. The top three teams will receive prizes.
