This Week's Recap....

Hello Parents,

This week at Holy Cross....

It seems that some of the students think that they are on Christmas vacation already... but we still have two weeks to go. Please talk with your students about their behavior leading up to Christmas break, what your expectations are for them and the consequences at home should they make bad choices. While we do understand the anticipation and hope that the students have a wonderful break, it is not that time yet and our teachers still have alot to teach in the next two weeks. I have had to deal with an unusually high number of disciplinary issues this week and it is not acceptable for our school.

A word about illness... it is cold and flu season. Our policy (which is the Department of Health Policy) is that a student MAY NOT come to school if he/she has had fever, vomiting or diarrhea within 24 hours. This is because the student is still contagious. Parents, please help us keep the spread of illness down as much as possible by not sending children to school that have had these symptoms, or medicating your child who currently has these symptoms and sending them to school. Not only do other students get ill, but so do our teachers. I know that you would rather have your student's teacher in his/her class than a substitute teacher.

Please be sure to take note of the day of your student(s) Christmas program. All of the students are working very hard on this. Please drop your students off at 6:30PM and then find a seat in the auditorium. Parking will be available in our front and back parking lots, on the street and at Fraternity Baptist Church.

The Anthony's Pizza fundraiser for our youth group is next Tuesday. All you need to do to support this is to go to Anthony's and either eat dinner in or take dinner out. The youth receive a percentage of all checks as long as you identify that you are with Holy Cross. So, please take advantageous of a night of not cooking dinner and visit Anthonys at 1835 NE 123rd St. See Mr. Toenjes and let him know you are there to support the youth (you can't miss him, he's the really tall guy with blond hair).

Illness Update

We have had students diagnosed with Flu, Strep and pink eye recently, along with the typical stomach flus and colds. Thank you to those parents who called and notified us and kept their sick children home. When your child is out sick, you must call the office or send an email of explanation.

Parents, please do not medicate your children to mask symptoms and send them to school sick! They are still contagious and the symptoms do come back once they are at school. They have also shared their illness with their classmates and their teachers in the meantime.

Please do not send your child to school with any of the following:

  • Fever within 24 hours
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Unknown Rash
  • itchy, red, oozy, crusty or watery eyes

Background check authorization

Below is the link. You cannot chaperone or otherwise interact with our students unless you complete the background check.

Cooler Weather is here... dress code info

Today was a little bit cooler and eventually cooler weather will settle in. Please be sure that your child in K and up is wearing outerwear that fits our dress code. You may purchase the very nice Holy Cross Fleece Jacket from Ibiley, or you can buy a sweatshirt, sweater or jacket in solid navy blue, white, black or grey. No logos. Jean jackets, jackets or sweaters with logos and hoodies are not permitted. And most importantly.....MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD'S NAME IS IN THE JACKET OR SWEATER. If we find them with a name in them, we return them. Otherwise, they end up in lost and found and without a name, anyone can claim them.

If the weather will be so cold that we will allow the students to wear long jeans, we will notify you via text alert. Otherwise, regular uniforms are required.

Collecting for an upcoming event:

We are collecting donations of bags of Tortilla chips for an upcoming fundraiser. if you would like to donate a bag and receive stewardship credit, please send the bag with your receipt and name to Mrs. St. Vil's room which is Room 6. Or you can drop it off in the office and we will make sure that it gets there. Please make sure that the bag is not expired. You will receive the dollar value of your donation as per the receipt as stewardship credit.
