O'Maley Family Focus

Updates from Principal Lynne Beattie - March 15, 2021

Dear O’Maley Students and Families,

I am writing with both an update and a reminder regarding Term 4 at O’Maley this year. As you are probably aware, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education recently directed all middle schools to provide a full school day program beginning Wednesday, April 28th. If you are planning on requesting a change for your child’s program enrollment for Term 4, the request must be received BY NOON tomorrow, Tuesday, March 16th. See Reminder information below.

Update on O’Maley Plans for Return to Full Day Instruction: Plans are still evolving and may still change. Regular updates will be sent as details are finalized. Below is what we have planned so far:

  • Term 3 will now end on April 16, instead of April 9. Grades will close earlier that week.
  • In our current planning, all O’Maley students, in-person or remote, will attend a full school day, 7:40 a.m. - 1:55 p.m. starting on April 28th Schedules will be published closer to the date.

  • On Wednesday April 28th, students changing between remote and in-person will start in their new program.

  • In the building:

    • Sanitizing practices will remain unchanged.

    • All students will be seated between 6 feet and 3 feet apart in classrooms. Students will not be closer than 3 feet when in class.

    • Masks continue to be required, completely covering both nose and mouth, upon arrival at school and throughout the school day unless directed otherwise by a teacher.

    • All students will be seated 6 feet apart and/or separated by plexiglass dividers in the cafeteria for breakfast and lunch.

    • Grab and go breakfast and lunch will continue to be provided at no cost for the rest of the school year. Students will continue to use the bathroom designated for their House.

    • Breakfast will be served 7:20 a.m. - 7:40 a.m.

Reminder: The deadline to request a change between In-Person (formerly Hybrid) and Remote models is Tuesday, March 16th at Noon. There can be no exceptions, as it is essential that we have accurate enrollment numbers in order to plan for the transition back to full time school days on April 28th.

Link to the request form below. If you have previously submitted a request and wish to change your selection due to the new changes in the school day, please simply submit a second form. We will use the most recent request.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions.

Best Regards,

Principal Lynne Beattie

Check your family daily for COVID-19 symptoms

As we try to minimize Covid-19 in our community and our schools it is essential that parents/guardians communicate with school if their child is out, sharing the details of why you are keeping your child home.

Below is the full list of symptoms for which caregivers should monitor their children:

  • Fever (100° Fahrenheit or higher), chills, or shaking chills

  • Cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough)

  • Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath

  • New loss of taste or smell

  • Sore throat

  • Headache when in combination with other symptoms

  • Muscle aches or body aches

  • Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea

  • Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms

  • Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies) when in combination with other symptoms

All Students Must Wear Masks to School.

No Parking on Cherry Street

Please be reminded that the only permitted drop off and pick up area is in the rink parking lot. Parking along Cherry Street is not allowed on either side because it blocks traffic. Residents and passersby have begun to make calls to both DPW and the Gloucester Police Department due to both traffic and safety concerns for our students who walk.

While there is often a line at both arrival and dismissal, it moves quickly. Please be patient and use the provided drop off and pick up areas.
