A Weekly Look at Grant Elementary School & the Grant PTA

A Message from Principal Grey and Petaluma City Schools:

Dear Grant Community,


This year, the School District lost over $700,000 due to declining attendance throughout grades TK-12. These losses directly affect each school. We need your help in turning this trend around:


  1. If you are taking a family vacation during the 2019-20 school year, please take it in April and/or May.


Rationale: Every day your child is absent, regardless of the reason, reduces the school budget between $50-$55 per absence, per day.


On April 1, our attendance reporting changes. Any missed days between April and May reduces the school budget by approximately $1 per student, per day. Yes... $1. Please help us avoid cutting programs by scheduling your vacations accordingly.


  1. If you are going to be gone for 5 or more consecutive days, you are eligible to sign up for independent study. Each school has an independent study coordinator that can assist you. Only completed independent study packets receive full attendance credit.


Caution: Independent study is only available for absences of 5 days or more. All short-term absences, even excused absences, penalizes the school at a rate of $50-$55 per student, per day.


Our #1 reason for absences are for short-term vacations and days missed for appointments, not for student illness. The District gets funding for any portion of a day a student is in attendance.


We are asking all families to make attendance a priority for next year. Our programs depend on it! Thank you!

Spring Concert Tonight, 5/21

The Spring concert will be held in the Grant Multi on Tuesday, May 21. Come hear some wonderful music and support our Shamrock musicians! The band performs at 6:30 pm. The chorus performs at 7:30 pm.

Final Spirit Day--Wednesday, May 22nd... 80's Day!

Come dressed in your finest neon, spandex, and side ponytails!

6th Grade Promotion Ceremony on Friday, May 24th at 1:00 pm

Please be aware that there is no reserved seating for this event. Please do not come early to put down items to hold seats for the ceremony. Items that are left on chairs to reserve seats will be removed. Lunch will be over at 12:30 pm and our students will be out of the quad by then. There will be more chairs available than usual because our primary grades will not be attending. Thank you for honoring the shared space!

Spring Book Fair This Week 5/20-24

Stock up on some great selections for summer reading! Keep the kids interested in books and help them grow their reading skills over the break. Every book purchased helps raise money for Grant! Please Help Set up the Grant Art Show This Week! 5/20--5/24

The Art Show will be open in the multi the night of the Grant Open House 5/23, but it takes a lot of prep work to get all the children's art up on display! Can you help with set up and take down? Come for an hour or stay all day! We are thankful for any assistance! Set up starts 5/20 and Take Down is 5/24. There are many slots still open! Please take a look at see if you can pitch in!

Grant Open House Thursday, 5/23

Come see what your Shamrocks have been up to! Grant's Open House will be on May 23rd. The art show is from 6:00 pm-7:00 pm in the Multipurpose room and the classrooms will be open from 7:00 pm-8:00 pm.

*Pro-Tip: Check the Lost & Found while you're on campus to collect your items before school's out!

Yearbooks!

Yearbooks have arrived and they look great! They'll be distributed on Field Day (May 30th). If you didn't buy one and would like one for signatures, there will be a limited number for sale in the office. You can also still order and customize at treering.com

Would you like to be a Grant Volunteer next year?

There are a number of ways you can volunteer at Grant. Most teachers love classroom helpers! You can also volunteer with the Grant PTA. From setting up classes for after school enrichment, finding great dine & donate opportunies, to helping plan events, working with the play or talent show or maintaining the display cases or organizing the barbecue or ice cream social...we need you!
