Here's what's happening in MS this week!

Dear Parents,
After school homework help is available Tuesday and Wednesday from 3:00-4:00. Please ask your child to bring home a form that can be turned in to the office.
ENGLISH
6th Grade: Students all have access to IXL.com, where they can practice material we have learned in class and any areas in which they are having difficulty. They may access the site from any device anywhere they have Internet access. We will have our first spelling test on Friday. Students will practice their words in class, but are invited to study outside of class as well. Reading Log #3 is due on Friday. This week, we will continue to read The Graveyard Book.

8th Grade: Look for Monday's article of the week which will be due on Thursday. We are continuing to work on our Michigan hero essays.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: Students just took a quiz on using latitude and longitude. We are still exploring how physical conditions are different at different latitudes.

8th Grade: On Friday, students took the Unit One test on the American Revolution. On Monday, they will be doing their presentations on a subject they chose to research. If they do not have the presentations turned in by Monday, they will have five points taken off. Next week we start studying the Constitution.
MATH
6th Grade: 6th graders will have their first chapter test on Tuesday covering integers and their opposites, ordering integers on a number line, and absolute value. Starting Wednesday we will be learning how to find and use the greatest common factor and least common multiple. Any quiz corrections or retakes are due this week. Students can retake as long as all prior homework for the chapter is complete.
7th Grade: 7th graders will have their first chapter test on Monday covering adding and subtracting integers. A good study guide is the Module Quiz and Mixed Review Assessment at the end of the chapter. We will continue to module two, learning rules for multiplying and dividing integers. Any quiz corrections or retakes are due this week. Students can retake as long as all prior homework for the chapter is complete.
8th Grade: Students are beginning to explore exponents and how to write numbers in scientific notation. Scientific notation is a way scientists can write really big and really small numbers when learning about distances between planets and measuring the size of cells. 8th graders took a chapter test last week and they can make arrangements with me this week to retake the test as long as all prior homework for the chapter is complete.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: We began our unit on Ecosystems and are learning about how the Great Lakes make Michigan a unique place to live.
7th Grade: We are having lots of fun investigating waves and their different properties. We will be starting a lab simulation investigating wave amplitude and wavelength of a transverse wave. Quiz retakes can be done at anytime before the end of the marking period on October 27th.
8th Grade: We are continuing our study of weather and will be learning about tools used in forecasting. We will be examining weather maps and researching weather patterns in different parts of the world to compare it to Northern Michigan.
