Big Brothers & Big Sisters Fundraising Breakfast

On Tuesday of last week four of our scholars shared with over 500 guests how important Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Charlotte is to their success. Our scholars did an amazing job of representing our SMS family and thank you to Ms. Eldridge, Mr. Robinson and Ms. Grier for helping our scholars with their speeches and chaperoning Tuesday's trip.

CIA 3's Continue on Tuesday & Wednesday

Our 3rd round of Common Interim Assessments will continue on Tuesday & Wednesday of this week. Tuesday we will conduct our science assessment and on Wednesday we will conduct our social studies assessment.

Sonja Gantt to Present to Faculty About The CMS Foundation

Wednesday morning CMS Foundation Executive Director, Sonja Gantt will join our faculty again to share the work that the CMS Foundation is doing to support our schools. We will begin in the media center at 7:45am.

NC Working Conditions Survey completed during Wednesday's Grade Level Meetings.

On Wednesday during our grade level or team meetings team members will have the opportunity to complete the 2016 NC Working Conditions Survey. If you have not already received your access code for the survey, you will receive it no later than Wednesday morning.

SMS Scholars to Visit Atlanta, GA Monday-Wednesday.

Forty two of our scholars will be traveling to Atlanta on Monday morning. The team will explore Atlanta's colleges & universities and will have an opportunity to visit historical landmarks such as the MLK Jr. Memorial, CNN Headquarters, plus much more.

EC Department April 1st Headcount

I would like to give a huge shout-out to Ms. Dodson and our EC Department for their hard work to ensure that we meet our April 1st student "headcount" deadline. The team is almost at their goal and is projected to meet the deadline in time.

Flint, Michigan Water Drive

Please remember to bring water and encourage your scholars to do so as well. We're currently at 4,000 bottles and our is 100, 000 by March 31st. Let's keep pushing!

Character & Exposure Clubs this Thursday 3/24/16

Our spring clubs will continue this Thursday. The purpose of character and exposure club time is to reinforce school-wide character expectations, provide opportunities for academic support and to allow our scholars to build trusting relationships with caring adults in our building. Thursday we will be on our modified club schedule and each grade level is expected to add a structured tutorial / academic remediation component to their grade level club options.

PD Corner

In today's PD Corner we have another great video from The Teaching Channel. This video shows ways to support our ELLs with analyzing complex text in small groups. Also included in the PD corner is The Marshall Memo. The Marshall Memo is a weekly summary and synopsis of education related articles from our country's top educational magazines, chronicles and journals. Soccer & Baseball Home Games on Monday & Tuesday

This week our baseball & soccer teams are back in action with two home games. Monday we host MLK Jr. Middle School and on Tuesday we host Cochrane Middle School. Please come out and support our talented scholar-athletes on Monday & Tuesday.
