Mr. Meyer's Monthly Update for Schiesher Band News
December
Our First Performance! Wednesday, December 12th at 6:30pm
Thank you for your continued support and encouragement of your beginning band student! It's hard to believe, but after just a couple months of hard work, our first concert is already here! I am incredibly excited for this, and I know the students are as well!
Our annual Schiesher 5th grade band and 4th/5th grade chorus holiday concert will take place on Wednesday, December 12th, at 6:30pm in the Schiesher Large Gym. Please plan to have your student report to the cafeteria/small gym at 6:00pm so that we can warm up together and prepare for the performance. If they are in both band and chorus, they will check in with me first and then go to warm up with Mrs. Leonard. Students need to bring their instrument and folder that evening.
It is expected that all students wear dress clothes for the concert. Boys should wear dress shoes, tall socks, dress pants, and a button shirt (tie optional). Girls should wear dress shoes and dress pants/a long skirt with a nice blouse or a dress. Please, no T-shirts, jeans, or tennis shoes. Holiday colors are a great idea! Santa hats, elf ears, and other festive additions are also welcome so long as they do not interfere with playing one's instrument!
We will also do an abbreviated in-school performance that same afternoon at 2:30pm. The students always enjoy this fun opportunity to perform for their peers. All students will need to bring their instrument and folder to school that day. Additionally, they need to bring the wire music stand that was purchased at Registration in September (hopefully they have been using this to practice at home!). Please label your child's stand with his/her name since there will be 80+ stands at school that day! We will leave stands set up following the in-school performance so they do not need to bring them back for the evening performance.
Paper copies of reminders about these details will be sent home at After-School Band rehearsals as well.
Practicing Over Winter Break
While it is still a few weeks away, please make sure that your child does some practicing over Winter Break when the time arrives. They have been working very hard, and they have been developing skills, strength, and good habits. It is important to take somewhat of a break, but taking 2 whole weeks completely off from playing will set them backward quite a bit. I don't want any students to come back in January and tell me they forgot to practice! Encouraging them to play for family members at your holiday gatherings is a great way to motivate them, to give them the opportunity to show what they've been learning, and to keep their progress going! The only way they will continue to improve is through practicing at home, and I thank you for your support and encouragement in that.
