Makar Sankranti or pongal
Pongal is the first day uttarayana and coincides with the beginning of the tamil month of Thai.
Pongal is one of the most popular harvest festivals of southern India, mainly Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Pongal happens in the middle of January every year and marks the auspicious beginning of Uttarayan (sun's journey northwards). The Pongal festival lasts for four days. Celebrations include a drawing of Kolam, singing & the cooking of delicious Pongal.
Vishu
Vishu is a Hindu festival celebrated in kerala. It falls around 14 April of the Gregorian year.
This occasion signifies the sun's transit into the Meda Raasi (first zodiac sign) according to indian astrological calculations, and represents the vernal equinox. "Vishu" in Sanskrit means "equal".
Bathukamma
bathukamma is a festival celebrated by the hindu women of telengana destrict in Andhra Pradesh. It is followed by Boddemma, which is a 7-day festival. This festival falls in September–October called Ashvin or Aswiyuja. Bathukamma is celebrated for nine days during Durga Navaratri.
