The Cardinal Letter
Fall 2019/2020
Dear Parents and Students...
I’m happy to report that we are off to a smooth start at Chippewa Falls Senior High School. The students are back in the swing of routine. Most students are participating in their fall athletic season, practicing for marching band competitions, and preparing for Homecoming 2019!
There was excitement in the air as our new freshmen came together to participate in our LINK program this school year. This program pairs our senior and junior students with our incoming freshmen to provide guidance and support as they enter the high school. Our goal is to create a school where students belong and learn at a high level.
Our students are respectful to adults and peers alike, they are engaged in classroom learning, and they are building a culture of belonging. Our senior speakers at our opening assembly challenged the student body to get involved, to make a contribution, to challenge themselves academically, and to stay committed to their journey.
This school year, we are focusing on implementing new systems of support for our students. The BARR (Building Assets and Reducing Risks) Program, which is similar to the team concept used at the middle school, and HOPE, which provides an alternative learning environment and online learning platform called Edgenuity, which will provide educators with the data we need to improve student learning. We will also utilize the Aspire Interim Assessment to help our students prepare for the Aspire test next spring.
With Prime Time at the end of the day, we are able to offer Senior early release. Wisconsin DPI allows seniors in good academic standing one hour a day for career skills development. This allows students to leave early to gain work experience, participate in job shadowing experiences, and attend courses at area post-secondary institutions. Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior students use Prime Time to schedule time with their teachers when they need additional pre-teaching, re-teaching, supported study groups, enrichment opportunities, or time to take retests. If students simply need a quiet place for independent study, we have designated areas for larger study halls in our cafeteria and library. Our goal is to put supports in place to assist our students and promote academic growth.
We look forward to continuing to serve our people and empowering and challenging our students throughout this school year. I look forward to a great school year.
Respectfully yours,
Donna Goodman
Chippewa Falls Senior High School Principal

CFHS Therapy Dog...Wilbur!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It is with great pleasure that I am writing to let you know that I bring my dog Wilbur into the classroom. Wilbur is a certified therapy dog through Therapy Dogs International (www.tdi-dog.org). The primary objective of a Therapy Dog is to provide comfort and companionship to people in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, and many other locations. Research has shown that Therapy Dogs help with emotional regulation and tend to create a comfortable, warm setting. To be certified as a Therapy Dog, Wilbur needed to pass a skills test and health requirements.
Wilbur is a 7 year-old Labradoodle who is eager to be of assistance to the students of Chippewa Falls Senior High School. During the day, Wilbur will be located in my classroom. During my prep time, we will be available to assist students in other areas of the school. At this time, Wilbur will be at school on Monday and Thursday each week. If your child has allergies, or you do not wish to have your child interact with Wilbur for any reason, please don’t hesitate to contact me (yeakeyjl@chipfalls.org) or Mrs. Goodman (goodmadk@chipfalls.org).
Thank you for all you do to support your child. I know Wilbur will be a wonderful addition to the school and I am excited to have him help support the students!
Many thanks,
Janelle Yeakey (and Wilbur)

Mentor Chippewa!
We Have Some Exciting News...The Chippewa Area Mentor Program is now "Mentor Chippewa"!
Meet Mentor Chippewa...Please allow me to introduce you and start the conversation, I mean that's what mentoring is all about, right?! Creating meaningful dialogue and building genuine connections with each other.
As an important piece of the community for the past 30-years, this rebrand will allow us the opportunity to reconnect with our community members, business and civic organizations to share our story and remind them of the impact we have made on our community and assure them that we're here to stay with their continued support of our efforts to make our community even greater by empowering the next generation of community members (our
mentee students!) to become the best versions of themselves!
Bottom line -- We are still here! We're still promoting the power of mentoring! We're just getting a little refresh.
