Attendance Matters
Our goal at Platte County School District is to ensure that every student attends school regularly. Our state and district's goal is to have 90% or more of our students attending at or above this percentage the total time school is in session.
PCHS's current attendance rate is falling short of the state and district goal: 87% of our PCHS students are attending at 90% or above of the total time school is in session.
As a district and as a school building, we have some processes in place to help ensure and encourage our students to attend regularly:
Students whose attendance rate falls below 91%, will meet with our school’s attendance administrator to identify areas to encourage increased attendance. Parents will be contacted to review these goals and offer support.
Students whose attendance rate falls below 90% will be paired with a staff member, who will serve as an attendance accountability partner.
Each month, parents of students whose attendance rate falls below 90% will be sent a notification letter and may ask for a conference with the school's attendance team.
Students whose attendance rate falls below 87% will be referred to the Care Team, a small group that will meet with a social worker and/or counselor regularly to determine further supports as needed. This would be in addition to the staff member serving as an accountability partner.
We are working to establish positive relationships with our students and connect them with trusted adults who will check in with students, and help them with all aspects of their schooling career, not just academics. Students are less likely to succeed if they are chronically absent - which means missing two days every month, or 18 or more days over the course of a school year.
If you have any questions with regards to attendance, please reach out to Mrs. Stephanie Theis, at 816-858-2822.
Materials from our November 27 Parent IgNIGHT - Protecting our Children in the Digital World
If you were unable to join us for our first Parent IgNIGHT session, which was designed to increase your awareness of potentially dangerous apps and social media behavior, what our schools are doing to educate students about online safety, and what you as a parent can do to help keep your child safe, you can view our presentation here, or review the attached handouts we created after collaborating with our expert speaker, Russ Tuttle, of the Stop Trafficking Project. We also streamed our presentation via Facebook Live on our Platte County School District Facebook page, and PCHS student videographers are currently editing the 1.5 hour session. We will post that streamlined video on the Parents tab of our website here once complete.
We have two other Parent IgNIGHT sessions planned for this school year, and we are welcoming ideas for future sessions. Thank you for partnering with us to build our learners of tomorrow!

Winter Weather/School Closing Planning and Notification
With the recent drop in temperatures and arrival of “white stuff,” it is time to begin planning for winter weather!
In the event of school cancellation, PCR-3 will get that information out as early as possible through automated phone calls and text messages, the District website, Facebook, Twitter, the District Hotline (816-858-2752), and local media.
Please visit the Winter Weather Information page on the Parents Tab of the district website for information regarding recess and clothing considerations (there will be no outdoor recess/class when the wind chill is at 20 degrees or below), cancellations, how the district will notify families, and Y-Club information.
Parents: If you haven't yet opted in to receive texts and wish do so, please text the word "YES" to 67587.
Have You Opted In to Receive Text Notifications from PCR-3?
School Messenger is our automated phone calling and text notification system. We use this system to notify parents quickly for sudden changes in schedules due to emergencies, school cancellations, or just important school announcements.
If you aren't receiving the District's text reminders and notifications and would like to opt-in to receive these, simply text "YES" to 67587.
Standard text messaging rates apply.

Pirates R.O.C.K. Character Trait: COMPASSION
December's #PiratesROCK trait is COMPASSION: showing concern through words & actions.
Student SCHIVIR Nominations
In an effort to make sure we are recognizing all our students, we are opening up the opportunity for students to nominate their peers when they are seen living out our Pirate Character Traits in our building. Please use this form to nominate your fellow students whom you see are living out our Pirate Character Traits (Self-Confidence, Pride, Responsibility, Citizenship, Compassion, Individuality, Self Control, Integrity, Perseverance, Respect, Cooperation, Honesty). Students who are nominated will be called to the office and recognized for their efforts.
Bullying and Safety Concerns
Safety is one of our district’s top priorities and to help safeguard our school community, our district is now using SafeSchools Alert, a tip reporting service that allows students, staff, and parents to submit safety concerns to our administration.
You and your child can easily report tips on bullying, harassment, or any safety issue you're concerned about through SafeSchools Alert.
Every tip SafeSchools Alert receives about our district is immediately logged in the system and our administration is notified so that they can investigate and take appropriate action. And, tips may also be submitted anonymously if you prefer.
Together, using SafeSchools Alert, we can make our district a safer place to learn!
