Every Day Matters

Stanton Elementary 2021-2022 Volume 5

Happy October!

This year is flying by! We will be sending progress reports home next week, which means we have already completed 9 weeks of school. I remember being a Mom of elementary students and thinking I had so much time with my children, but now that they are all out of the house and in college, I know that it really did fly by. Everyone warns us about how fast time flies, but it doesn't seem that way until I think about my own children or look at a calendar and realize the first semester is half way done! We love seeing the growth in your child each day and we truly are seeing some gains in their academics. Continue to encourage your child to complete every assignment and activity to their best ability, because we know that every day matters!

Attendance and Tardies

Parents, please remember that you may drop off between 7:35-7:55 at the back doors. After 7:55, they need to come through the front door. Any student who arrives after 8:00 is tardy. Our tardy/leaving early policy is:

1st and 2nd - Warning

3-5 Detention

6-8 Detention and Parent Meeting

9-11 Saturday School

12+ ISS

The following information on attendance is located in our student handbook.

We have a group of students with a large number of absences, so we wanted to remind all about our policies.

Attendance Documentation after an Absence (All Grade Levels)

A parent must provide an explanation for any absence upon the student’s arrival or return to

school. The student must submit a note signed by the parent. The campus may accept a phone call from the parent but reserves the right to require a written note.

The campus will document in its attendance records whether the absence is excused or

unexcused.

Note: The district is not required to excuse any absence, even if the parent provides a note

explaining the absence, unless the absence is an exemption under compulsory attendance

laws.

Doctor’s Note after an Absence for Illness (All Grade Levels)

Within 3 days of returning to school, a student absent for more than 3 consecutive days

because of a personal illness must bring a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the absence. Otherwise, the absence may be considered

unexcused and in violation of compulsory attendance laws. Should the student develop a questionable pattern of absences, the principal or attendance committee may require a statement from a doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the absence to determine whether an absence will be excused or unexcused.

Parent Conferences

We have seen many parents coming through our doors to meet with their child's teacher. This is a very important piece of the education process - hearing how your child is doing and also letting the teacher know of any concerns or questions you have. If you have not been able to schedule this, please contact your child's teacher and make this happen.
