Mr. Harris' Thoughts
The goal at GES and the HASD for the 2023-2024 academic year has been professional learning. We recognize that we are a high performing school and in order to improve and be even more high achieving, we need to relentlessly pursue knowledge and practices. This is what we are doing this school year:
- Book Study - Each staff member selected a book to read (from a list of 6) and collaborate on once a month. These discussions happen at GES with our staff after school one Thursday a month.
- Staff Meetings - The first Wednesday of the month the GES staff meets to have common learning on our PLC framework and professional behaviors as related to team function and decision making.
- Early Release and PD Days - These happen about once a month and it is a time for learning and collaboration with cross district teams. We have identified staff that has a specific skill to teach other staff and these days have been very beneficial.
The staff at GES is very committed to professional learning and we understand just how important continuous improvement really is!
GES Multitiered Systems of Supports - MTSS
I want to communicate with you an important aspect of our professional practice: Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
What is MTSS?
MTSS is a framework that allows us to provide a comprehensive system of support to meet the diverse needs of all our students. It ensures that every child receives the appropriate level of help and intervention to succeed academically and behaviorally.
Three Tiers of Support
1. Tier 1 - Universal Support: This is for all students. It includes high-quality, research-based instruction provided by our talented teachers. At this level, we focus on prevention and early intervention.
2. Tier 2 - Targeted Support: Students who may need additional help beyond Tier 1 receive targeted support in smaller groups. This could involve extra instruction or interventions tailored to their specific needs.
3. Tier 3 - Intensive Support: For a smaller group of students, individualized support is provided. This could include one-on-one assistance and specialized resources to address their unique challenges.
At GES, we are dedicated to ensuring that all children learn at the highest level. By using MTSS, we identify and address any barriers to your child's success. We believe that early intervention and personalized support can make a significant difference in their educational journey.
Your partnership with us is invaluable. If you have concerns about your child's progress, behavior, or learning, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher.

GES Parent/Student Handbook (Highlight)
Something that has been happening lately at GES is the increased presence of cell phone and watches capable of making phone calls or texts at school. This is a safety tool and it is important for you to be able to contact and monitor your child before and after school, but during the school day, all staff are here to support your child. Please see the paragraph from our handbook below...
CELL PHONES
If your student needs to have a cell phone at school, they are to be kept in their backpacks in their locker and turned off during the school day. Teachers or an administrator may approve cell phone use for technology integration for the purposes of learning.
If your child needs to contact you during the school day, they can use the phone in the office to call you at any time.
PTO Corner
We have our October PTO meeting on Monday the 16th at 3:30 in the LMC. Our Pupil Services Team will be presenting on our new SEL curriculum, attendance, the SSIS screener, E3 services, and at home strategies for behavior needs.
