Message to 9th Grade Band Students from Clay Sloan
Let me congratulate all of you for being 9th graders. The school year definitely didn't end the way we had planned, but here we are!
The students and I are very excited to have all of you in the Austin High School Band. You are joining a band with a long history of musical greatness, and I am confident that you will continue that tradition.
I am sure you have a lot of questions about the summer rehearsal schedule. I wish I could give you all of the answers you want, but that just isn't possible at this time. We are still not allowed to meet because of the Covid-19 situation. We are being told that we should be able to get back together in June, though we may have to meet in small groups.
Because of this, the New Member Camp that was scheduled for May 26-28 will NOT take place. As for the rest of the summer schedule, it will probably have some major changes. Expect to see a new rehearsal schedule in June when we know more.
Many of you are probably concerned about making summer travel plans. I will remind you that attendance to summer rehearsals is required unless excused by the band directors. We are glad to excuse you from a rehearsal provided you communicate with us in advance via email. However, please remember that we do expect all students to attend all rehearsals for the week of Band Camp. As of now the dates for camp are July 27-31. Unless circumstances force us to change it, you need to plan to be available for those dates.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me. I will be contacting you with more info as soon as it becomes available.
I hope you all have a great and productive summer!
Chromebooks
- Students will be allowed to keep their school issued Chromebooks over the summer!
- AJHS administration will continue to monitor student Chromebook use.
