The Shipman
Captain Riley
Part One
Occupation
This is where I will talk about what life was like for a sailor during the Chaucer's time.
Need for Occupation?
This profession tells me that trade was increasing. England is an island, so if they are going to trade with other countries like France (or even countries they were introduced to during the Crusades), they are going to need to trade using ships.
Social Standing
Is this person high school? Low class? Middle Class?
The Shipman is the new middle class; but he is low middle class. People don't generally respect sailors, and they distrust them. Sailors have a bad reputation for drunk and disorderly contact. As a sailor, he doesn't make much money.

Day-to-Day Life
Life on a ship was full of hard work and discipline. Most people think that a a pirate's life was full of booze and plundering, but there were still duties that needed to be done.
He's day-to-day life would depend on what his poition was. Since the text insinutates that he own the ship, I am going to assume that he is the Captain. He is responsible for making sure that the ship is naviagting in the right water,
