ThingLink NEISD District Challenge
We are waiting to hear the district challenge results on the ThingLink about winter holiday traditions around the world. Students turned in their projects to the judges last Friday. We hope to hear this week. See the link below to view the projects students turned in.
Important Senior Announcement
Two students each period were able to follow Chef Katie's demonstration and create a rose out of marzipan.

Using the play dough we made, students practiced how to make flowers.
Caramel sauce used on ice cream, over brownies, or spread on apple slices.
We made caramelized onions and put those on hamburgers and hotdogs.
Another fun way to use caramel.

(16) The student identifies properties of carbohydrates. The student is expected to:
(A) explain the chemical reaction that occurs when plants produce carbohydrates;
(B) define monosaccharides and disaccharides and name examples of each;
(C) describe the regulation of glucose in the blood and the conditions resulting from low and high glucose levels;
(D) explain sugar hydrolysis and list the products of the hydrolysis of sucrose and lactose;
(E) discuss the process of caramelization;
(F) compare the structures of amylose and amylopectin and how these structures affect cooking properties; and
(G) describe gelatinization, paste, retrogradation, and syneresis.
