March 2016-Spring Break Edition
Impressions Ontario Teen Book Fest March 2016
On Saturday March 12, I attended the Ontario Teen Book Fest at Colony HIgh School Ontario, CA. I was in for quite a treat with 15 YA authors on hand. First, Jay Asher, author Thirteen reasons why, Marissa Meyer, author Lunar Chronicles series, and Printz winner Andrew Smith gave the key note addresses. I later attended a morning and and afternoon session where other writers discussed various topics from publishing to social issues from their works. My favorite part was "the book speed dating". Each author circled the Colony High cafeteria for answering questions and/or introducing his/her most current publication for five minute segments. At the end of the day, the authors stayed for book signings. I had only planned on purchasing a few books, but ended up buying more. Finally, I interacted with the Colton Middle School book club during the Panera lunch and at the book signings. New members of the Yellowjacket Literate are definitely on the way. Now, that I know this fair exists for the entire community, I will encourage my Colton High club members to plan and fundraise for next year's event.
Yellowjacket Literate March 2016
CHS yellowjacket Literate members met and discussed the current book selection Sara Zarr's Story of the girl . Students will now choose an individual book for spring reading. Each member will comment and rate their book in a Google blog posting. Students will create a Smore promoting the book during the meeting after spring break.
