UPCOMING PLP CLASSES
Google Exploration (Independent Study-no points)
Loads of new Google Classroom features including assigning work to individual students and groups of students, teacher notifications for late work and resubmitted work, and admin console reports with statistics on how much Classroom is being used by staff and students.
Teachers should register for the Word Study Follow Up course(s) that best meets the needs of their students. Participants will dig into the characteristics of a Derivation Relations speller, analyze a writing sample to determine a student's strengths/areas of need and gain additional strategies for connecting word study to authentic reading and writing.
Goal 3: Examination of Personal Culture
Session Code: PROF
Program: Division-PLP
Dates: 3/23/2017
This course replaces the Introduction to Cultural Awareness class. This course will allow participants to examine and reflect on their personal culture and share their story with other participants in a small group setting. Participants will be introduced to a framework of effective methodologies, concepts and definitions that will validate the culture of all students in the classroom. These research-based strategies will enhance relationship building and make relevant learning connections to increase student engagement in the classroom. At the end of the course participants will be able to 1) reflect on one's unique cultural narrative; 2) acknowledge others' unique cultural narratives; 3) clarify the process of growth toward cultural competence; 4) connect adult cultural competence with student outcomes 5) reflect on ways that school culture can cause others to "negotiate identity" and 6) create multidimensional lessons that incorporate various learning styles. *** Participants are asked to bring a story, object, photo, symbol, or anything else that represents some aspect of their culture, family history, or personal roots. Participants are asked to reflect on this, decide what to bring or what story to tell, and be ready to share something of your personal culture and/or family history in a small group discussion. ***
