Basketball Camp 6th - 8th grade

Hello Families,
Why do we ask our children (over and over) to brush their teeth, eat their vegetables, or do their homework? The reason is that we care. Our children may not always perceive it that way, but it is true.
Our involvement means we care.
Indifference is uncaring.
The same is true at school. Teachers and aides may remind students to walk and be quiet in the hall when passing by other classrooms. Students may not always appreciate the request, but the intent is important. The purpose of these interactions is not to diminish their experiences but to ensure their safety, especially in large groups.
One way to help kids understand is to explain the difference between group and individual safety. For example, when you take your child to the park, you may let them jump off the swings or skip rocks in the pond.
Yet, if you were at that same park and in charge of hundreds of students, then throwing rocks or jumping off swings may no longer be a safe option. Understanding the difference can be helpful for children.
Helping our students examine and understand the intentions of the adults who work hard to keep them safe, such as their parents, teachers, and school support staff, is an important skill.
The motto this week is:
Our school aides and recess monitors teach us
because they care about us.
Wishing you and your family a great week,
Danna Evans
