June Newsletter

Have a Wonderful Summer!!

As I reflect on my second year at Loughborough Public School I feel so proud to have played a part in what I truly feel is a wonderful place to learn, as I’ve said before we are more than just a building! Here at Loughborough we are a community of learners; we are a collection of children, teachers, and community members that work together to continue our tradition of excellence in the community.

This year we continued to work towards meeting our academic goals as a school and of course as individual learners. I am amazed at the level of discourse and critical thinking that goes on in our classrooms every day. Not only did we continue to excel academically, but we also maintained our tradition of offering our students multiple opportunities to excel athletically and in all areas of the arts as well. Our student athletes have made us proud throughout the year. Thank you to all the coaches here at LPS on a tremendous season of athletics! Here at LPS we know that active minds and bodies go hand in hand in creating overall healthy students.

The arts are also alive at Loughborough! We need look no further than our choir, our Christmas Concert, numerous plays and performances that have showcased our students' amazing talents. Our students have kept us entertained all year long and they are all so talented in so many ways! We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year! Thank you staff for bringing out the best in our students!

There are so many people to thank for this wonderful school year. Parents, volunteers, staff, students, and our Parent Council thank you so much for everything you do for our school. Each and every day you all go above and beyond for our students and your efforts make us what we are, a community of learners. I thank each and every one of you for all your hard work and dedication to our students. As I walk our yard each day at recess I am so thankful to see our children playing in our redesigned yard. The school naturalization project spearheaded by our Parent Council, staff, and community volunteers last year is the envy of every school in our Board. Our students are blessed to have this space to play. Our pledge to you is to continue to foster this sense of community and continue on this path next year.

Based on the information we currently know, we are pleased to share the following classroom organizations for the 2017/18 school year, based on projected enrolment figures that are provided to us by the school board. Organizations are finalized at the end of the second full week of the new school year, based on actual student enrolment at that time. Sometimes this results in changes to both the organization of classes (e.g., a Grade 2/3 could become a Grade 2) and educator assignments. The current (tentative) 2017/18 organization of classrooms is:

Grade 1

Grade 1/2

Grade 2

Grade 2/3

Grade 3

Grade 4

Grade 4/5

Grade 5

Grade 5/6

Grade 6

Grade 6/7
Grade 7C

Grade 8C

Grade 8

With this in mind please let the office know if you are moving and will not be returning to our school for the new school year. Please also encourage anyone you know who is moving into our school area to be sure and register in the office before the end of June. This information greatly assists us in building our classes and staffing organization for the 2017/18 school year.

June is the time of year where we have to say good bye to staff and hello to new staff coming in. I'd like to take this opportunity to wish Mr. Mooney good luck at his new schools, Holsgrove and Collins Bay. I know that these communities will appreciate his commitment to students and their learning. I'd like to welcome Mrs. Janet Revell to LPS as our VP. Mrs. Revell comes with a wealth of experience and I know that the community will join our staff in welcoming her with open arms. To Ms. Armstrong and Ms. Hollinsworth we wish you both the best of luck in your new positions and to Madame Kyer enjoy your maternity leave! We welcome Ms. Lauzon to our French staff and Ms. Groenewegen to our primary division next year and we know you will love LPS! We also wish Ms. Lees the best she goes on a self funded leave for next year and look forward to having you back in 2018!

Last evening's graduation was a wonderful community celebration for an amazing group of students. Graduates we wish you a happy and safe summer and good luck in grade 9! To our new JK students coming in to Loughborough next year we can't wait to get to know you and your families! Please watch our website for information concerning class placements of JK and SK students for the Fall. You can expect either a phone call from administration or a letter in the mail advising you of your child's class.

On behalf of the entire school staff I'd like to wish you all a safe and restful summer!
