A Letter From the Principal ...
Dear Evansdale Families,
As hard as it is to believe, we have reached the end of the first semester of school. It has truly been a busy and rewarding 18 weeks for both the students and staff. I am so proud of the students for all their hard work and growth they demonstrated each day. I know they will all come back on January 4th prepared to soar like an eagle into second semester.
I continue to be amazed by and grateful for the tireless dedication our staff has shown throughout this semester. Although they won't be at school for a few weeks, I know they will be preparing exciting, challenging, and engaging activities for your students.
It is time now for everyone to take a well deserved break to relax, spend time with family and friends, and have fun. I wish for you all a very happy, safe, and restful winter break and look forward to an awesome second semester. See you on January 4th!
Sincerely,
Luci Chattman
Principal
P.S. I hope every student participates in my Marshmallow Reading Challenge over the break and can't wait to share a hot chocolate party with the winning class!
Dr. Chattman's 2nd Annual Marshmallow Reading Challenge
Dr. Chattman is challenging all Evansdale Eagles to read at least 280 minutes (average of 20 minutes/day) over the Winter Break, December 21-January 3. Every time a student reads (or you read with him/her) for 20 minutes, he/she can put a mini marshmallow* in a Ziploc bag. Ideally, he/she should have at least 14 marshmallows in a bag by the end of the break. All students need to return their bags to their homeroom teachers on January 4th. The class with the most marshmallows will win a hot chocolate party with Dr. Chattman in January. Look for a flyer in your student's couriers next week. *Students may use real marshmallows, cotton balls, or paper marshmallows for this challenge
Congratulations to Robo Birds!

2018-2019 and 2019-2020 School District Calendar Survey
In accordance with Board policy AEA, the Calendar Committee is charged with developing calendar options for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years and submitting the calendar recommendations to Superintendent Dr. R. Stephen Green. The DeKalb County School District’s Calendar Committee is exploring calendar options to align with other similarly sized districts in close geographic proximity.
Please complete this short survey about the calendar options. This is not a vote but rather an opportunity to receive input from all stakeholders. The survey link can be found below and is translated into multiple languages:
The survey window will close at 11:59 pm on January 3, 2018. Thank you for your participation.
Give the Gift of Participation by the End of 2017
The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphone or tablet. All parents are encouraged to participate in the Georgia Parent Survey because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis.
The Georgia Parent Survey is also available in Spanish. Parents may select the Spanish version within the survey. Results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. The Georgia Parent Survey link is posted below.
